We won't CU later: New Ofcom broadband proposals mull killing off old copper network

upnorth

And what do offcom consider fibre?

I recently downgraded from fttc to adsl. The drop in speed? It went from 17meg to 16meg. The price dropped from £20 plus to £10, the difference I invested in Three unlimited 4g contract which gets around 60meg. Fibre needs to mean fibre to the House, not some copper fibre hybrid, which in my case means 20 metres of fibre and 2000metres of copper

Too much money to be made

This data set is way to valuable for the confidentiality interests of the public to have any impact. Sure, they will say soothing things but the reality is that your personal mediacal data will be out there and identifiable for those willing to pay for it. Just point me at the process to opt out of hving my data shared, and I will sign up as I did with care data, and recommend all my family do the same.

Re: Vermin

same problem, but mostly solved with a combination of measures

1. pricker strip on all fences - not 100% sucessful, but hugely entertaining watching them trying to walk on it

2. They seem to have trails they use habitually - block them where you can. One particular thing that worked was putting a plastic strip under the gate which stopped them squeezing under

3. block off their toilets - they seem to be creatures of habit particulaly enjoying crapping on flowerbeds. Blocked these off with chicken wire

BBC pay Sky to broardcast the BBC channels

Sky actually get a free subsidy from the license payer. Under a deal done when sky started, the BBC actually pay sky for broadcasting the BBC channels (which seems to be all that is worth watching on sky anyway). If this subsidy was removed, and sky made to pay a commercial rate for the BBC channels like all the other stuff they broadcast then possibly the license fee would be able to be reduced, and sky would not be able to outbid all other suppliers for major sports events.

Nuke, cos thats what should happen to Sky
