Lenovo spits out retro ThinkPads for iconic laptop's 25th birthday

I've been running the T470 which this retro version is basically for about 6 months, I've nothing but good things to say about it, it replaced a Macbook Pro 2011. I did buy a XPS 15 and the new Macbook Pro before landing on this but both went back faulty.

The build quality on the T470 is excellent, best keyboard I've ever had on a laptop, beats the clacky thing on the new Macbooks, and above all it just works. I use it 8-10 hours a day, get 4-5 hours battery out of it running Visual Studio with Resharper, SQL Server and IIS on it.

I am converted, which given I was a hardened macbook fanboi prior was a bit of surprise.

Entity Framework goes 'code first' as Microsoft pulls visual design tool

Time for something new?

Whilst this isn't a total surprise as they appear to be going code first with everything else in .Net, I'll miss the design tool it was very useful.

They seem to get bored and drop support for things in the .net system a lot these days, I'm tempted to go back to Java dev work or maybe even give Node.js a try as I'm not really liking the direct .Net is going.

I'll get my coat.

iPhone 6: The final straw for Android makers eaten alive by the data parasite?

Re: lets look at this in another way..

I asked myself the very same question this week when looking to replace my iPhone 4s. I got the new Moto G for £150 and it's more than a match for the 4s which I'm only replacing as I wanted a bigger screen and a new battery. I can't be the only one who's seen the prices of the new iPhones and thought they are poor value.

iPhone 6: Advanced features? Pah! Nexus 4 had most of them in 2012

Re: Take my money! Oh, you're too busy...

I had the same experience when I went to buy my macbook, just wanted to speak to a someone and hand over my money, easy sale you'd think.

But I was directed to one of the ipads and told to virtually queue WTF? The sales bod was just standing there doing nothing, how hard is it to take my money and give me the goods I want.

I ended up walking out, I did get the macbook in the end (couple of weeks later after I'd finished telling everyone I knew how sh*t the apple store was) but I did in at a PC store where a sales person actually spoke to me. It's the small things in life.

Disney buys Lucasfilm, new Star Wars trilogy planned

Re: Hallowe'en

Thrawn trilogy would make a great set of sequels, the books capture the spirit of the original trilogy far better Lucas' prequels.

That said think I'd prefer them to do something like BioWare did with Knights of the Old Republic (xbox 1 game) and set it in the same universe perhaps a thousand years in the future with a restored Jedi order and a resurgent Sith threat. That way they shouldn't make the mistakes of the prequels trying to make the story fit with the originals.

Think I'll be sticking with the 2010 versions ...

Finally gotten used to all the UI changes with the ribbon etc then they do this. I opened the full screen preview of the new UI and it gave me a headache just looking at it for 30 seconds. God knows what'll be like after a full day of using it.

So I'll be sticking with the 2010 versions of everything which still have some contrast between the content and the toolbars so your eyes know where they should be resting.

Have they given the work experience kid the job of designing the new style? Looks like things have gone backwards 20 odd years.
