Reaper aerial killbot harvests its first fleshies

Joe Bloggs

Re: Disgusting. Real people.

The author is merely describing how human targets are regarded by the owner and operator of the killbots, i.e. Uncle Sam. The US have a time-honoured tradition of treating anyone who isn't American as inferior humans. They also have a long-held policy that states that those who aren't with them are against them.

So, if you happen to have the misfortune to be non-American and disagree with US policies as well, you are in Uncle Sam's eyes nothing more than a juicy meatsack good only for target practice.

On the other hand, if you don't hold US citizenship but love licking Yankee boots, i.e. you're an ally, then you are considered a step up from pond scum and barely tolerated. Of course, if you're part of the Coalition of the Killing, I mean, Willing, then you get a pet on your head for your loyalty and dedication.

Indeed, as recent history has shown, even allied troops aren't worth much more than meatsacks. The families of British and Canadian soldiers shot by US troops in numerous friendly-fire incidents are still waiting for answers that will never come. Time and again, the US government has stalled investigations, withheld evidence, and refused to extradite the perpetrators to face justice. The same goes for their Iraqi serfs.

Human beings as meatsacks: Disgusting? Sure. But it doesn't make it any less real.

GMail shakes IMAP out of coma

To: Anonymous Coward

Well, with Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and others offering gigabytes of email storage for free, I find it hard to justify paying US$14.95 for a measly 6 MB of extra space. Also, if you're going to call people names, at least have the guts to reveal your own.

Thumb Up

Another FastMail user here

I've had my FastMail account for quite a few years now. It's the only free email account I can find that actually provides IMAP4 support. The downside is that it is only 10MB. Larger storage is available, but comes at a cost.

I was hooked on IMAP4 ever since I was introduced to it at my former uni. POP3 works for most people who require only rudimentary functions. For synchronisation purposes, POP3 is a poor alternative to IMAP4.

I'm eagerly anticipating IMAP on my Gmail account.

Refreshing change

More often than not, if one wants to play the "good guy", the option would be to assume the role of a GI, Green Beret, Ranger, Marine, Seal, or a member of whatever other typically "valiant" US military forces. Occasionally, one might even get to play a game as a part of the SAS or other NATO special forces.

The standard villians would be the Nazis, Japanese, Soviets (or Russians, latterly), Chinese, Vietnamese, North Koreans, Arabs, Persians, and some Latin American states that have the audacity to overthrow US-sponsored dictators. Come to think of it, discounting the Nazis and Japs of yesteryear, Uncle Sam still hates the guts of probably a quarter of the world, if not more.

So, this certainly would be a refreshing role-reversal, if one could ignore the blatant propaganda. But then again, aren't the usual shooting games not-so-subtle propaganda for Uncle Sam anyway? Just look at America's Army, for an obvious example.

So, where can I download this game, eh?

UK Gov boots intelligent design back into 'religious' margins

Creationsm, Manifest Destiny and all that bosh!

Mr Gregorie has brought up an old but nonetheless brilliant argument that puts a stake in the heart of Creationism and its pseudoscience spawn, Intelligent Design.

More than two-and-a-half centuries ago, the great Scottish philospher, David Hume, showed that the Creation story collapses on its own due to the fallacy of infinite regression. The illogicality of a supreme being was further exposed by Bertrand Russell with his Celestial Teapot argument. Yet today, millions continue to cling to an old myth.

It's not really a problem if people choose to delude themselves with fairy tales. Unfortunately, most of the major religions urge their followers to impose their beliefs on others and, if necessary, by force. To make things worse, the most powerful nation on Earth just so happens to have a fervently religious population who isn't shy about training their sights on "heathen" nations - preferably those with plenty of long-dead organic matter.
