Robustness of connector?

Based on my experience with USB-C connectors they seem to be prone to wear and subsequently loose fit. This I have noticed with several phones and other devices, as much as I love being able to use the same charger I’m not blind to the downsides. Even my Laptop, a ThinkPad, using USB-C for the charger has twice picked up lint or whatever that needed cleaning out, both in less than a year. Same for my wife’s laptop. I don’t subject that laptop to a harsh environment by any means. While my iPhone during longer service time did not need that, also the connector is as firm now as it was two years ago.

Just wondering if it’s really that great of a design to make it mandatory?

You mean mini SIM?

I think that switch was quite a bit earlier - the Ericsson GH 197 from 1993 had a "normal (mini) SIM". I worked for an operator rolling out one of the first GSM networks so we had all the early phones from Orbitel & Co - I noted that the large SIM became rare quite fast.

Though some, like Motorola managed to cram the large SIM into surprisingly small phones for some years after that.

There's also the Ericsson GH388, launched in 1995 with the same feature. Go find the manual: Ericsson publication number EN/LZT 126 1298 R1A dated October 1995, page 42.

"To call a phone number in a message. Press YES when a phone number is found in the display to call the number direct."

Can we just agree that there IS prior art?

Well, Ericsson GH388 was launched in 1995 and could dial a phone number from a SMS. Extract from manual p42. Ericsson publication number EN/LZT 126 1298 R1A dated October 1995:

"To call a phone number in a message

Press YES when a phone number is found

in the display to call the number direct.

After the number has been called, the message

is considered as read"

I do NOT understand why this previous art has not invalidated that bs patent long ago. Sad that Ericsson didn't file a patent, then they could sue both Apple and HTC :-)
