Well the good news is that this is still in committee in the House so it has a ways to go.

As much as the lack of Senate being able to pass any legislation drives me nuts some times, there are other times I find it quite comforting since the feces throwing monkeys in the House will pass just about anything except for a sensible budget.

I agree. I didn't read the study, but me thinks that the context of the data may have not have been thoroughly thought out (The Signal and the Noise by Nate Silver talks about this sort of crap) and without good contextual analysis of the data it is just an example of post hoc ergo propter hoc.

As difficult and painful as it is, a tattoo can be removed. It should be remembered that any form of electronic media is just one short step from being on the internet and people should plan accordingly.

Just as a though experiment, what would happen if someone used a normal camera then after the break up made a bunch of copies of the photo and tacked them up on every public bulletin board that they could find? Senator threatens FAA with legislation over in-flight fondleslabbing

Cubical Drone

Sort of a double standard

I have to wonder about stuff like this.

There are many examples of the NTSB making a recommendation to the FAA after a crash to change its rules so that the same thing does not happen again. What happens a lot of the time is the airlines start crying that the new reg would cost too much and the FAA promptly ignores the NTSB's recommendation.

Example below:

Re: Well, the US government IS...

This is not the US government however, it is a school district and school districts are controlled at the local and state level.

Post-pub nosh deathmatch: Pierogi versus patatas revolconas

Cubical Drone
Paris Hilton

Re: No. Just no.

I must agree about more protein needed. Also, where is the grease!! Granted, there is some on the bacon, but I am not talking about a few drops here or there, I am talking about an amount of grease that would make the BP Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico proud (over here in the states there are regions where bacon grease is a food group), and properly coat the stomach. Now you may be saying that the frying of the pierogi will give you some, but if you have properly heated the oil, it should soak in very little, so more grease is still needed.

As for the health effects of the grease and salt, let’s remember this is not supposed to be health food. You are eating this after you have assailed your liver with an amount of alcohol that could be used to disinfect all the equipment in a large hospital, so the health ramifications should not be a worry.

Paris because the grease helps keep her coat nice and shiny.

Post-pub nosh deathmatch: Bauernfrühstück v bacon sarnie

Cubical Drone

Both look good, but...

While both dishes look very tasty, I live in San Diego California and any alchie here knows that the perfect food to grab while staggering your way home, or in the morning is a Carne Asada Burrito which is marinated chopped up beef (not ground), guacamole all wrapped up an a flour tortilla (tortilla must have lard as an ingredient!). The combination of grease and fat coats the stomach beautifully. This is also a great breakfast treat (although I can make the argument for a Machaca Burrito for 'the day after').

To find a properly prepared Carne, or Machaca Burrito, you will want to find a mom and pop Mexican place that should meet the following 3 criteria:

The name of the establishment should end in "erto's" (e.g. Alberto's, Ruperto's, etc)

Perferably the building should be painted in stripes of two colors (yellow and orange or white and blue tend to be the more authentic places).

Lastly, the grimier the better (if you cannot believe you are about to eat food prepared there, you have found the perfect spot).

(Note: you can find good beacon here, you just need to go to a proper butcher shop and yes, veggie beacon is a sin against nature)

Re: Where's the science?

It is always difficult to argue against the "God said it, I believe it and the settles it" logic, so I am not even going to try. I am just sort of curious what brings you to a science and technology website in the first place. There is really not much for you here since a lot of the articles are about how stuff works and you already have your answer for how everything works "it is the will of the Creator".

PS - Perhaps you have seen the references to the FSM, you may want to Google it.

Being a skinny is much more unhealthy than being fat – new study

Cubical Drone

We don't need no stikin' BMI

Come on people, you don't need to do any higher math to figure out if you need to drop a few.

First test, you get out of the shower, are your feet wet? If no, then a trip to the local fat camp may be in your future, if yes, first test passed.

Second, look in the mirror; you will know if you should get a little more exercise by pushing yourself away from the dinner table.

Also there is the general waist to height rule, if you measure your circumference at your belly, it should be less than or equal to half your height, if it is not, a regular brisk walk around the block now and again would be in order. (If some studies are to be believed, the belly fat is the worst of the lot.)

A note to Mr. Page: In a previous article of yours I encouraged you to branch out by debunking other things that make people feel guilty besides climate change and I am so happy to see you have taken that suggestion to heart. While I could drop a few myself, and am thus encouraged by this report, I am still waiting for you to hit the mother lode, namely the whole smoking kills you thing, so that I might stop feeling guilty about that.

Study: The more science you know, the less worried you are about climate

Cubical Drone

For your consideration Mr. Page

Mr. Page,

While I have only read some of your articles, I feel like I have read them all and because of you, I now realize that the whole idea of climate change is based on bad science and the rants of tin foil wearing tree huggers. Thank you, I can now buy that SUV I have my eyes on, leave all my lights on 24/7 and burn pools of oil in my back yard without fear of global consequence.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could now tackle another thing that makes me feel bad. You see, I am a smoker and constantly feel bad about myself for not quitting. If you could do a series of articles debunking the whole smoking is bad for you thing that would be great. I believe that there are studies from the 50’s and 60’s that say that smoking is actually good for you, so if you just republish and expand on those, that should be a good start.

Thanks in advance for your attention to this.

And the worst film NEVER made is...

Re: And now something completely different

My nomination for this category would be Deathstalker. It totally fits the 'so bad it's hilarious' description. In fact, it seemed to dawn on the makers what ended up happening, so they tried to do it on purpose with Deathstalker II, but you can never pull off that sort of thing on purpose, so it was just very bad.
