Top boffin Freeman Dyson on climate change, interstellar travel, fusion, and more

Steelhead

Or the other "King of Science", Richard Dawkins! But as Professor of the Public Understanding of Science his views would probably be as welcome here as at a Fundamentalist Christian meeting on the infallibility of scripture.

Re: One of the wisest things I've ever read.

Totally agree. There are serious holes in evolutionary theory and the measurements of the age of the Earth. These range from entropy issues and the inability to explain how molecular machines could evolve independently yet which only have any function when they work together. There is at least as much evidence against evolution as there is against climate change but because there is no money to be made denying evolution compared with global warming, our beloved El Reg never reports it. You are happy to deny the consensus when it suites your anti-Green world view but not when it admits to believing in the infallible Word of God. Both Global Warming and Evolution have serious issues with well publicized criticisms in both well published and at least 0.0001% of scientists working in each field seriously disagreeing with them (at least after they have had enough to drink) and with plenty more who know very little about either field but with credentials in totally unrelated areas all too happy to expound their biases in the hope that the uneducated masses might believe that a physicist or economist knows more about climate change or evolutionary theory than someone who has spent their entire career working in it.

The world is 6000 years old, created by an old man in a white beard and is cooling, at least until the rapture happens when you will all BURN!

Top Boffin??? What next, "Interview with David Ike"?

Re: RTFA (@Bernard M. Orwell)

But you can't believe the BBC or the Greendiad as they are clearly dangerous, subversive, left-wing Trotskiest publications, unlike the bastion of unbiased objective journalism that is El Reg.

Climate change alarmism is a religious belief – it's official

Steelhead

Good point and well put.

The irony is that (and I know that is is so uncomfortable to the average Sun/El Reg reader) has multiple degrees in Science and is more qualified to speak on such matters than certain bigoted and narrow-minded reporters that spring to mind.

Steelhead

I thought of commenting but it like writing a comment to the Daily Mail saying that their article is homophobic or bigoted.

Would EU exit 'stuff' the UK? Tech policy boss gets diplomatic

Re: “national measures” continue to entangle the single market

Please read the links you are posting. The EEA has to abide by the four freedoms of the EU which include free movement, so the Farage's of this world, hoping to send home the Eastern Europeans are going to be sadly disappointed. Remember, apart from a very tiny minority, the EU immigrants who live in the UK are working so would fall under this. See the following link for for info:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_movement_for_workers_in_the_European_Union

Oh, and in the EEA you have to accept a certain number of EU rules and conditions without having any actual influence on said rules.

Riverbed plunks ESXi hypervisor in Steelhead WAN optimizers

IInteresting... I would imagine that RiOS is running as a VM on top of ESXi in a similar manner to how the VM console used to run in ESX.

Climate denier bloggers sniff out new conspiracy

Steelhead

Nothing particularly new here. From someone who is both a Christian and a scientist, nearly all the Christians I talk to who believe in a 6000 year old Earth created in 6 days quote me various studies both a) supporting their claim for a young Earth and b) supporting evidence against AGW. These two certainly go hand in glove along with their flat out rejection of the scientific concensus. And, oh yes, many state either a) disbelief in the Moon landings or b) If we did do it we shouldn't have as it is too much like the Tower of Babel [sic].

Bed time reading

Maybe we should give him the following book to read:

Re: Hansen's got that backwards

Far too balanced and well thought-through for here!

In future could you please reuse one of the following replies:

A) WE ARE ALL DOOMED! MAN-MADE CO2 IS GOING TO TURN THE EARTH INTO ANOTHER VENUS!!!!! ANYONE WHO QUESTIONS THIS IS IN LEAGUE WITH THE DEVIL / BP / THE REPUBLICANS.

or

B) Actually, climate change has been made up by a load of raving lefties and hippies who have smoked too much grass and want to turn the Earth into their own personal Gaia. The Earth isn't warming, it's all a conspiracy created by said lefties and, in fact, is cooling down!

or

C) Climate is constantly changing (just look at the geological records), we have had ice-ages, hot spells and the thought that human beings can in ANY WAY change the world around them is simply obsurd. These so-called 'climate scientists' cleared obtained their PhD certificates from the back of a packet of Kellogs Cornflakes!

Iranian nuke plants rocked in midnight 'heavy metal blast'

You think that they would have had more success with Morrisey. If they could have arranged that to have been played loud enough and long enough the scientists would probably all have committed suicide which would have solved the problem for good.

Potatoes

It is a mistake to think that you can solve any major problems just with potatoes
