Bargain-hunting boss saw his bonus go up in a puff of self-inflicted smoke

Sibling Rivalry

We had 5 foster children and they all had their own computers, until one of them discovered the little 110/220 switch on the back of the power supply of his siblings computers.

He denied all knowledge, but seeing as his was the only computer that was still working it was a bit of a giveaway. He was banned from using his computer until the others PSU's were renewed.

Re: The year of Linux on the desktop (TM)

I've moved most of our computers to Mint, it's and excellent Distro and a good replacement to Windows.

Giving Windows total recall of everything a user does is a privacy minefield

I started moving all our PC's to Linux last month, and thank god I did. Microsoft is becoming a nightmare.

Microsoft touts migration to Windows 11 as painless, though wallets may disagree

Rick594

I have a couple of Windows 10 PCs that aren't capable of running Windows 11, there's nothing wrong with them. When support for Windows 10 ends I'll be migrating to Zorin OS.

Sorry, but there is no way we will have another heat pump installed. We installed one at great expense in 2012 and had it replaced with gas 6 years later. The heat pump was expensive to run, kept breaking down and didn't heat the house if the outside temperature fell below -5 degrees. When they stop supplying gas we'll install wood burners.

There's something to be said for delayed gratification when Windows 11 is this full of bugs

I'll wait for Windows 12,1 I should have a quantum computer by then

250 Man U mugs

Many, Many years ago in the dark days before 'tinternet my eldest son who was 6 at the time managed to get onto the Sky store and ordered over 250 Man U mugs, fortunately I'd unplugged the telephone line to plug a modem in, so the purchase never went through.

Action Fraud are a waste of time. I contacted them 2 weeks ago about an attempted internet fraud using ebay, but although I was still in contact with the fraudster they didn't seem all that interested they said they would call be back. When they called me back 2 days later I was out, and when my wife asked for their number they replied "Oh he's got our number". I called the 0300 number and received an automated reply "This number does not accept incoming calls". No alternative number was given. Why bother?
