Just a further suggestion

Could you not use thin strips of sticky metallic tape for the break point, it would provide good continuity between the tubes and the cabling but still have the ability to shear off cleanly on launch?

Alternately a reverse cloths peg style of clip that provided the connection onto the inside of the tube by sprung assisted friction alone and the thrust would again draw the clips out of the tube.

Automated vehicles will save lives by driving more safely than humans, why because they will be programmed by the manufacturers to take no risks at all unlike humans and if there is an issue they will simply shut down and refuse to move.Any warranty as suggested will lean heavily on the owner to have services and part replacements done exactly at specified periods unlike most modern vehicles which miss servicing or don't replace parts i.e. tyres and brake pads as required.

All travel data will be recorded I suspect specifically so the manufacturer can cover his ass but this will be available in the event of an incident involving any vehicles manned or not to apportion the failure.

The right to own and drive a vehicle is just clogging up the roads to congestion and the "communal vehicle" may relieve at least some of this.

As with any other coded program it will be up to the programmer to patch the system with as many variables as practicable hence the trial runs just like any other system.The system will in my estimation, be able to learn by self teaching in such one off variables it will select the safest option in its arsenal and should sensor viability be compromised either internally or externally i/e/ by neferious means it will inevitably park up and await rescue by Google.

To be honest I think the military will be taking a keen interest in the outcome of these trials for their own self aware systems many of which will also travel off the grid so to speak.
