Facebook postpones privacy putsch: report

huh?

I don't get it...if it is THAT obvious (and it surely is) to a) people who comment here and b) legal bods then why bother announcing something that won't / can't be implemented in the first place? oh and Facebook definitely needs to work on how it informs its users about changes in privacy. Seems nuts to me that I read about these things on The Register as opposed to say, Facebook actually communicating with me directly.

Beer 'cos it's Friday lunch time and piddling down with rain.

Obama administration defends mass call-data slurping

WTF?

"That terrorists will come after us if they can, and the only thing we have to deter this is good intelligence."

Or change your foreign policy. As in many other instances legal does not equate to right, or good for that matter.

O2, GiffGaff network goes titsup for unlucky punters

Customer service?

As someone whose phone has been converted into an iPod touch since since 2pm yesterday I've been massively inconvenienced, but my main concern is the lack of effort on O2's part wrt communicating with customers. Why do I find better and more useful info on ITV, Sky News than their website? And why is it OK for O2 to email me saying "your bill is ready, please do cough up" but NOT to say "we realise you're affected and apologise for the inconvenience. We are trying our hardest & will be in touch later with a full explanation & hope to make it up to you."?

What's copying your music really worth to you?

Re: If you are not going to give them money

As others have already implied, this point simply asks more loudly "do we pay for the music or the format?". The corollary being, "are music companies (publishers) selling music, or are they selling MP3, vinyl, CDs etc?". My peronal view is that music companies / record labels sell the music, not the formats...I buy the right to listen to the music, not a piece of plastic that happens to have music on it.

If they could, record companies would charge everyone for EACH listen.

Pints under attack as Lord Howe demands metric-only UK

What's the problem; not hard to live with both surely? My main concern would be if beer is to be served in 500ml glasses, will the price go down accordingly? Nah, thought not.

It really is not a big deal to have both imperial and metric in use. In fact I would suggest there is a greater case to be made for aligning the UK and US imperial systems, but that doesn't need tampering with either!

For Christ's sake, I ride a vintage Vespa that only has a speedo in Km/h and odometer in Km, yet I travel on roads measured in mile. Big deal. Use what feels right for you and what you understand best.
