Bot attacks Linux and Mac but can't lock down its booty

Thumb Down

It asks you to install from the web browser.

#1) If this is the boonana variant that I think it is (which seems to be the case from the name), This is old news. Seriously - this was reported elsewhere with a video in October of last year. Google it.

#2) It asks you to install, and you have to click through multiple warnings/certs, FROM YOUR WEB BROWSER. Show me anyone on Linux that would fall for that, and I'll show you someone that's not been using Linux for more than a few days (hint to Win users: You don't install anything on Linux directly from within the web browser - excepting FF/chrome plugins which you specifically have to ask to install).

We don't get bit because...

Linux users don't get bit because we're not stupid enough to believe a "You must install this codec" message given to us by the web browser, nor click through the untrusted cert warnings that come after it.

Linux

Updated 5 systems here - no probs.

As long as you're using anecdotal evidence, I've updated from 9.04 to 9.10 on 5 different systems (4 physical, 1 VM), and had no problems worthy of report.

I don't doubt that some people may have had issues, but I'm not seeing anything newsworthy

The great news is that any real problems will be fixed on the install discs ISOs, and new users won't even see them when they download/burn them in the coming weeks. Go ask MS if you can download newer slipstreamed ISOs without giving thousands of dollars for an MSDN subscription.

And the really beautiful thing about Linux is that you can do a *clean* install and get all of your apps user settings back by copying in the config files for the ones you want from your old home directory. Even system apps only need their /etc files restored. Try doing a clean install, and selectively get back all the related Windows registry settings for your Windows apps.

FUD.

HP adds encryption gear for storage systems

How much?

$83,500... Wow... Congrats to HP if they manage to sell 10 of these... since they appear to have an artificial 10000% markup over their actual (current) value.

Sounds like a certain flyboy doesn't want his job outsourced.

Sure, they could shoot down a predator with missiles. But, put the next generation predator electronics in an F-22, divide the controls/responsibilities so that four experienced combat pilots are sitting in a room flying it at the same time and see if a single human pilot can beat it in a dogfight - especially when the main commander orders that first ridiculous-G-force-blackout-inducing turn.
