My diagnosis of ERP problems is that the Accounts Department are the problem.
Either they are narcissistic megalomaniacs who put their administrative convenience before what the organisation needs to do, or, the rest of the organisation are lazy luddite fuckwits and Accounts end up implementing it by default. Either way, the tail wags the dog.
From another angle.
Part of the problem is that every fucker wants a password. I can remember a strong password. Or three.
So, what are the risks if my password is cracked for:
El Reg, or any typical messageboard. Apart from embarass me, or get me banned.
My utility account password (no card details saved)
A one off purchase from a site (again, no card details saved)
Or am i being naive?
Whats IQ got to do with Politics?
Politics is a mixture of ideology and self-interest.
Put another way. Lets say you are an average tory*. Meet Professor Redbeard here. His IQ is 30 points higher than you, and he is a revolutionary communist**. Does this convince you to join the revolution?
* replace with any mainstream political party
** replace with any extremist
Laptops are so last decade. Tablets are obviously better.
However, it would help if tablets had a proper keyboard and more ports. The keyboard could be attached to the screen by a sort of hinge. Also it would probably help to put the brains in the keyboard part rather than the screen. That way it would be more balanced and more comfortable if , for example, you had it on your lap.
Tax my arse. Australian retail is complacent and fat and incompetent. If Amazon can capture the Australian market via amazon.au they can make tons of cash by being a bit less shit than their rivals.
While if ozzies go to .com they are only going to make US level profits - plus the hassle of shipping and tax.
How certain are we that there wasn't an intelligent dinosaur?
We only know of 700 dinosaur species, total, while right now there are 5000 species of mammals and 10,000+ birds.
Which implies there's thousands of dinosaurs that never made the fossil record?
And what level of civilisation and technology could an intelligent species reach and be invisible to us 65 million years later ?
Random thoughts
I doubt if Lego is more expensive in real terms than it used to be.
Some of the tie-ins seem questionable, they seem to ignore the buildability.
Eg Star Wars seems right, because taking your X-wing set and your Y-wing set and mashing them up to make a Z-wing is natural. But whatya gonna do with Harry Potter? Make a different Hagrids Hut?
The problem now isnt the specialised bricks, its that the set designs are over-complicated, over-specific, and havent been designed to be customisable. eg.as a kid building LL928 gave me a template for building other spaceships. While a typical star wars lego spaceship doesnt teach you how to make anything else (i know that kinda undermines my point above but at least the Idea of Star wars lego makes sense)
Does this stuff apply to the non-financial everyday admin bits of the business? I mean, does BigBank have to be able to monitor the facilities manager arguing with the catering company about sandwiches ?
What if theres a conglomerate, with one wing that sells consumer finance and another that sells holidays?
Fair point - IF Oceans steel has worn away to uneconomic-to-repair levels (in which case - are the Brazilians blind, bribed, or both? )
Machinery - doubtful. The 'Civilian' machinery isnt that expensive and the 'Military' stuff has to be upgraded periodically regardless of the age of the vessel.
I suspect that a decent civilian design can have a 30 year life, and 'military spec' includes plenty of gold-plated nonsense.
Footballers abilities are frequently and publicly tested and their pay comes from willing consumers.
So:
Bankers, well, fuck knows what they do all day , and they fuck up things for everyone.
Presenters: I am very sure that Messi is a much better footballe than A N Other, Melchester reserves.
But I dont really know that Gary Lineker is any better at presenting MoTD than A N Other personable retired ex pro.
"There are many possible variations: you may also add dried and/or fresh tomatoes, other kinds of seeds instead of or in addition to pine nuts, even other oils. As with all traditional stuff, there isn't a single recipe (I do many different variations myself)."
No, no, no, no. a Genovese hit squad is on its way now to punish you.
