REJOICE! Windows 7 users can get IE11 ... soon they'll have NO choice

Lost in Cyberspace

Microsoft never make it easy to install IE

It seems that, more often than not, I can't update IE on customers' computers because there are (big) updates or service packs missing. Or of course the OS doesn't support newer versions.

So it's never a 5 minute job updating the browser.

Despite being an IE user, I end up installing Firefox as a quick fix to get something to work.

Re: "Great news for our customers"

Small product gets lots of useful and unique features.

Small product gets bought by big business.

Big business politics get in the way and maim the product so that it only works on a certain platform or with a certain type of ID.

Product stops being what it set out to be and loses its original customer base.

Skype is just one example. Photo Beamer is another (now Nokia only, no longer on iphone).

Lost in Cyberspace

Re: It doesn't matter if it's any good

Agreed.

Nice to see some positive comments

Wow, some great comments!

Nice to see it's not all pro- or anti- Apple for a change.

I agree that products should be released when they are truly:

1) useful

2) fully functional

3) reliable

4) affordable

Not forgetting decent battery life.

Looking forward to a product that truly has a positive impact on my life though.

Will hold judgement until I've used one though. Found it difficult to justify a tablet until I'd used one a bit.

Apple launches global 'iWatch' trademark blitz

Another product we don't need... Yet

I will reserve judgement until these smart watches arrive, because tablets were dissed until iPads arrived and sold by the truckload (and so were those first clunky smartphones IIRC).

I think it will solve a problem we didn't know we had.

Apple will be the first to do it quite well. Others will be along very shortly after to do it cheaper, or better, or both. Apple fan or not, Apple does have one big advantage - a huge iOS install base - so this thing could fly off the shelves.

My darling daughter

Once managed to rack up a debt with Apple despite being 7. She had her "own" iTunes account with about £10 credit and managed to rack up a £42 in app bill... All because Apple thought she was good for the money because a kind relative had once topped up the account with a now-defunct Click and buy account. Of course it was rejected and apple pursued her (of sorts) to settle the debt, grrrr

Cold, dead hands of Steve Jobs slip from iPhones: The Cult of Ive is upon us

Lost in Cyberspace

Re: Honestly...

Completely agree.

My iphone is easy to use. Does what it needs to brilliantly. Love the visual voicemail integration, love the apps.

Windows phone also looks simple but lacks the apps I want.

Android is a power users choice, it has some niche apps and I love the customisation. But I don't recommend it to smartphone n00bs. There's a few niggles that can make it a bit fiddly (fragmented Android etc).

You make your choice and you live with it. No need to hate the opposition, accept that there is now healthy smartphone competition and eventually all platforms will both innovate and Borg some of the best features from the others. Who are the winners? All of us smartphone users...

Thumb Up

Can I just say

iOS 7 looks great and is long overdue. I hope the battery lasts all day though.

Lost in Cyberspace

Re: Actually,

@AC 17:36. I'm not surprised you chose to go Anon with that comment.

I implied that older phones generally get the latest update. Not that they get every feature. You chose to be very selective by mentioning Siri. Is the Galaxy S3 going to get every feature that the S4 has? No. Nor is the Ace 2. (Oh I think that finally got an Android update, I might do that soon).

The iPhone 4 (is that 3 years old?) will get iOS 7. With some of the iOS 7 features. And most importantly, iOS 7 app support. I doubt it will be the full experience but the apps will work.

Before you get petty, i know my 4 year old 3GS won't run iOS 7. It limps along like my old Windows XP laptop I've got somewhere.

It's refreshing to know that for the reasonable life of my phones, there will be innovation and (general) compatibility.

I love the freedom of Android devices but I don't have the same confidence that the latest updates will be available.

Lost in Cyberspace

Actually,

I always look forward to WWDC - not so I can salivate at the new Apple stuff, but with interest as to what my existing iPhone and iPad will be able to do in 4 months time.

Not a fanboi, just nice to know that most of the ios announcements will apply to me. Not just a small subset of users, with the latest version of a device, and at some point in the distant future, an update just might arrive.

Yes I know that ios varies a little across devices - but unlike my Android devices, I do actually get proper updates occasionally.

Ignoring any benefits of online exams

Pens and paper are cheap and reliable, and not prone to technical issues (nothing stops a bit of paper or a pen being swapped over quickly).

Online exams are relatively expensive and prone to problems where time-critical examination is required.
