The fact that they ask you each time is on purpose; they are trying to make you give up your EU-lawgiven right to not be tracked.

One of the main selling points of computing power to the masses has always been gaming. It seems to me that cloud services like Gaikai and Onlive will change that. We will end up gaming on handheld devices or cheap "decoder-consoles" hooked up to a TV. That means that the computing power owned by individual citizens will actually drop! From a democracy point-of-view, it concerns me... Even if you will still be able to buy a proper rig for a few more years, eventually the masses will have moved to low powered cloud computing video-decoders, and the only market for real computing power will be in machines that require the infrastructure of a server-room to function. Once all computing power has been centralized, it will be in the hands of a small number of very powerful individuals...

Anyone who is surprised over the way Sony prioritizes media sales in their products must take a look at their annual report. Sony has long since stopped being a true consumer electronics company, now it makes more money from media than from consumer electronics. On page 35 of the 2011 annual report, you will find that 35.5% of their revenue comes from media (including Sony Pictures, Sony Music, and games), 31.9% of their revenue comes from consumer electronics, and the rest is from electronics components, financial services and "other".

Now, once you make more money from media than from the devices, obviously, any sane CEO will start prioritizing the devices capability as a sales channel for media, rather than the devices themselves.

I don't get it, why has hippie become a derogatory word? Why are the ideals of peace, love and understanding so unpopular? I, for one, think they are among the best ideals we could have! "Peace", well everyone except the military-industrial complex wants that! "Love", must be popular! Not just sexual, but also brotherly and above all humane feelings towards each other are the basis of empathy and any sort of society at all. "Understanding" is our main tool in the world! I have always taken El Reg's readers and journalists as people who truly want to understand both things and humanity!

Of course not! For crying out loud! The US is just one bloody country, not all of "The Free World"! The UN is the only party with any kind of claim (albeit rather weak) to speaking for the world. When the UN makes a decision, there is at least some kind of connection to the vote I laid in the last election (through the government of my country, their appointment of representatives to the UN, and so on). When the US speaks, they speak only for themselves and their citizens, but I have given them no right whatsoever to speak for me! So shut up about that rubbish of US decisions being decisions for the "Free World", you are only ONE country with 312 million people, the world has 196 countries (or thereabouts) and 6.8 billion people!

Wow, I thought people here believed in science...

Really... There are those people who don't know the first thing about science but still go"I want it to be so, and therefore it must be so": This is known as wishful thinking. I really didn't think I would see much of that here, but then an article that screams "I am written by a Climate Skeptic" smacks me in face!

Anyone that actually has real expertise in climate modeling will tell you that global warming is coming, it is a horribly dangerous development and it is caused by man. Then a bunch of people come along and think they can figure out better without any expertise at all, just because they don't like the scientific results!

I thought this was a place were people would know the value of science, I seem to have been mistaken... :-(
