There's a scarily good 'deepfakes' YouTube channel that's quietly growing – and it's freaking everyone out

Re: I'll be baaaaack

Isn't this a plot point in "The Last Action Hero"?

Kid goes to a video store to show Arnie's Character that he was in the Terminator but it's SS in the Standee at the video store.

Return of the Glassholes? Relax: Huawei's 'smart specs' aren't Google Glass 2.0

Glassholes

I just wanted to be able to say:

"OK Google" Subtitles and have speech and text translated in real time without having to push buttons or hold a phone up.

Re: "The report doesn’t really discuss the current capabilities in AI"

I liked the one when the AI let some cats on after the bombs and they became an intelligent race after a few thousands of years. [Pre Red Dwarf iirc]

British Gas bets you'll pay £150 for heating remote control

PAH! I have economy 7 heating. It has a switch in the airing cupboard for the hot water and a switch next to a storage heater [which you can't actually use correctly as it only has one rate on it]

If I want hot water I have to push the switch and about an hour later I will have enough for a shower. I also have to remember to turn it off before I leave to avoid paying more.

For heating I have to turn the heater on a day before It gets cold and hope it won't get any warmer.

A month to go on Cookie Law: Will Google Analytics get a free pass?

MRC1980

I did this last year

When they bought in the law I tried out a couple of different solutions, even writing to the ICO to find out exactly how they had implemented it on their site.

I put a script into my headers to bring up a "do you want to let us use cookies?" banner and a link to information explaining what we used, why we used it and also to allaboutcookies.org

It lasted about a week.

Our analytics package became functionally useless, and even the amount of bandwidth used dropped significantly. Our sales took a massive hit as the public did not like or trust any kind of popup.

I <!--'d the script out and its still sitting there till the last possible minute to bring back. Do not track in browsers is a better idea but as a marketer I would prefer "opt out" so I can gauge how successful a campaign is without having to go back to the bad old days of using AW stats and the like.

Boxes Pah!

I've got a pile around 10x10 meters of old and obsolete kit. Boxes of unopened Telecoms kit, A crate of CD's and floppies with old drivers which only work with 1 specific firmware release, about 20 various unused "broken" desktops, some kind of "essential" PBX exchange and 10 years worth of old hard disk and memory. Oh and a few RC helicopters.
