Lay off the Weegie...

I'm a Weegie and have worked and lived in Romford and Birmingham. My accent had to adapt each time.

Currently in Idaho. Not sure where I'm going with this comment but I sound fucking amazing wherever I am :)

"Do these people complain how skimpily the dancers are dressed at the ballet?"

Probably not, but then you expect to see dancers/dancing at the ballet.

Unless the burlesque dancers were all some fantastically futuristic bio-mechanical feats of engineering, I see no connection to entrepreneurship (and even if they were, it'd be tenuous at best). There is no DE context here.

Three Mobile, two alleged hackers, one big customer database heist

Sir Gaz of Laz

Sounds like inside job to me...

No hacking here as far as I can see (caveat - based on what I've read so far).

Internal login used, quite possibly by employee or at least someone in collusion with the alleged thieves. Eight customers affected. Sounds like their internal systems for flagging this activity worked - or maybe the insider got careless, who knows?

A similar thing happened years ago when I was a manager at another mobile operator (I won't name them, but ee, the stories I could tell you on a one to one basis). An entire team found a way to force these upgrades and drop ship to marked addresses for collection. Nothing wring with systems or security - someone was determined to find a way around it and greed got the better of them.

Was flagged up very quickly, but allowed to continue (to amass evidence) and then the day came when they were summarily dismissed. Quite a few arrested immediately afterwards too.

Sadly there will always be internal theft - no amount of system security and cross checking is going to overcome that completely - after all, you have to trust that the people you are employing in these roles are honest.

"Nothing in the price bracket offers one [ a fingerprint scanner ]"

Elephone P9000 £185 on Amazon UK right now, with Prime delivery. Offers said fingerprint scanner as well as 1080p screen and 4GB of RAM and wireless charging.

I'm very pleased with mine - no issues since I've had it and a few OTA updates already, including the security patches.

Bargain of the year for me.

BT and EE, O2 and Three: Are we in for a year of Euro telco mega-mergers?

Virgin's mobile offering is as an MVNO, using EE's network. So although it does offer quad play services, it is not as a fully integrated operator.

Ditch crappy landlines and start reading Twitter, 999 call centres told

Sir Gaz of Laz

Many (feels like hundreds) years ago I worked on the 999/100 service and came up against this scenario often. If the caller was flustered and didn't know what to pick - or simply tried to hang up - they were connected to the police, where we would give as much information about the incident as we could. If they chose a service that was not correct, then that service would either a)connect them to the correct one (this was force area specific) or b) alert us (the initial 999 operator) to connect the caller to another service.

If an incident required more than on emergency service, the one that got the initial call co-ordinated getting the others there too.

I'm guessing you've never been in Currys - being forced to stand 2 feet from any TV side by side, you'd be hard pressed to see a significant distance. These are not premium electronics emporiums.

Sir Gaz of Laz

'apart from anything else the latter is always going to be easier to sell to Currys punters on the basis 4K is a bigger number than 1080.'

I actually witnessed this in Currys at the weekend - elderly couple in buying a 55" TV for 10YEAR OLD grandson for Christmas ('it's what he wants') being told to go the 4K route as 'loads' of programs are already being broadcast in that format...in fact, it's the 'HD standard these days'.

When the not-quite-hip-enough-for-Apple-Store assistant had this questioned by Grampa - who could not see any difference between the 1080 and 4K demo pictures - he was told that it was probably due to his glasses (!) and that the higher resolution was better to have as 'more is better'.

Was at an awards ceremony last October hosted by Jimmy Carr - not one of my favourite performers it has to be said, but he made the evening an enjoyable one - particularly as he pretty much slagged off each award (e.g. 'Best Use Of Phone Technology In A Call Centre - er, it's a f****** call centre! What could the best use possibly be?' etc) whilst the organisers looked on rather sheepishly.

Sir Gaz of Laz

Re: Yea! But you know...

I agree, I prefer the anticipation of the whole regeneration episode and reveal. I'm guessing the BBC has done this as its the 50th anniversary year and more importantly to counter any tabloid spoilers ahead of time. Capaldi is too high profile an actor for that secret to have been kept.

Great choice though, looking forward to seeing how he does!
