'It's a joke!' ... Bill Gates slams Mark Zuckerberg's web-for-the-poor dream

CyrixInstead

Say what you like, but...

Outside of the tech industry, Bill Gates is a fabulously benevolant man. If half the world's rich people funded the world's genuinely needy problems, like he does, the world would be a much better place. For better or worse, Gates has donated towards the advancement of the planet for the last two decades. In that time his products have been used the world over, in everything from cash machines to stopping alien invasions. It's good to see he can continue with it now he's made his riches.

At what point does a personal fortune become so great that you are fine with spending billions on charity?

It's good to see someone posting about beneficial tech projects, in rural Africa. Education can be as important as personal wellbeing in the grand scheme of things.

ConTEXT?

I use NotePad++, and on a non-programming point I particularly like the plugin to copy code to the clipboard with the highlighting colour intact.

But does anyone anyone use ConTEXT these days?

Well Apple have patents for head tracking technology, so why not?

On my way home the other night in the snow. The effect is pretty cool at 60mph on a dark country road.

All very nice, but will this version of Android give me back any of my precious battery life that ICS took away?

Application Permissions

Sounds a bit like the permissions on my Android when I install a new app. To be honest I rarely read the updated permissions, I'm sure I'm in the majority. I would expect the permissions to be very clear in Windows 8. How does that affect all the current programs out there?

Not really, more like letting said burglar choose a numbered door depending on what he wants to steal, then making sure that there's no way out of the matrix-style room, where escaping doesn't get you out.

As much as I'd like to disagree these are all points I have to concur with. I love my s2 though and happily put up with them. I prefer the freedom over a Jesus phone

Re: Don't senseless acts indicate mental problems?

Not really, a big grudge and nothing better to do is perfectly sane; it's senseless to everyone else though, and a huge drain on society.

Bummer

Nice to see lots of positive comments and vote ups. I too feel sorry for the bloke, by and large science is all about failure.

So, what IS the worst film ever made?

Dungeons and Dragons

Dungeons and Dragons, without a doubt for me. Nothing like the kids TV show I remember, I should have trusted my instincts at the video shop looking at the cover. Pure shit, no wonder it went straight to video. Starship Troopers 2 was pure crap as my second, again a shit film cashing in on something else's name.
