I went all Intel starting with the Q6600 Core 2 Quad that I paid $273 for in 2007. My interest was video encoding and AMD products then were well behind what Intel offers and what AMD released later to compete against it fell well short.

As for your quote: I have an AMD Phenom, one of the early ones that nobody wanted to touch due to a FUD campaign. It's worked fine since like 2007. It outperforms the Core 2 Duo massively in the real world. While it is probably a lot slower than some of the more modern silicon I tend to ignore the benchmarks and just look at performance I notice.

Who today even uses a dual core processor? Even browsing (with video) now taxes quad cores.

Because of the "Minimum downlink rate" update I now am getting 50 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up at the same price of $34.99 from Time Warner that I was getting for 15 Mbps down / 1 Mbps up.

The upgrade happened with no trucks rolling. Just a flip of a switch and bingo 3X speed improvement.

This would not have happened without the FCC.

You are right in that we are tired but the problem is that a lot of registered voters DON'T vote.

They have no cash to spare for more R&D. In fact AMD is saying they will again be cutting operations costs so there go more layoffs and lower R&D spending.

Like clockwork each quarter AMD loses money they cut R&D thus the writing is on the wall: AMD is terminal and dying right before your eyes.

AMD will run out of cash for day-to-day operations long before the long term debt is due.

So AMD has options of selling more shares for cash (and diluting shareholder value) and this may not be an option if the long term bond holders have riders preventing it.

If AMD cannot raise cash they will have to shrink to survive so they may well jettison whole divisions: CPU, GPU etc. AMD in the short term future will be vastly different then they are today.

My understanding was that the Nvidia demo of the Moon landing was done in real time on a pair of GTX 980's not a render farm.

Watch the video and really look at the part where they pan the camera away from the L.E.M. camera view (with the bright light at the base of the ladder) to see that that light was from the sun bouncing off of Armstrong's space suit.

Yes, Seagate's and Western Digital's infant mortality rate are fantastically BAD.

When these drive makers went to a 1 year warranty it was a clear signal that they were making crap drives.

And those 1.5 GB drives were very bad. I had purchased 2 WD WD15EARS drives and one was DOA on arrival. The replacement drive I kept as replacement drive for my 4.5 TB Raid 5 external eSATA ( 4 x 1.5 TB) and was tested during it's warranty period and was found to have become defective. So a RMA on an RMA not good at all.

AMD had finally added SSE instructions in the early 2000's to finally perform well in the multimedia portion of the tests when Intel added specific code to not run SSE code unless the processor was "Genuine Intel" so AMD had to execute the code slower on the CPU. There were specific configuration bits on processors that tell if instructions like SSE are on a CPU but Intel knowingly inserted the "Genuine Intel" to hobble AMD.

This Atom cheat was again probably specific since the end results were many articles about how Intel's new Atom crushes ARM. So far I do not see any changes in those original articles so the damage is done and many believe that Intel has crushed ARM.
