I don't really need a newer ThinkPad than my X201 and T400, in fact I still use the X61s at times for the 4:3 screen and very light weight. Still, I may well be unable to resist this one unless it has a 16:9 screen. That would be unacceptable and deter me from making the leap.

On the occasions I have heard her speak, she seemed to have made up her own idioms and buzzwords so that I had no idea what she was talking about, a fine American tradition, I grant you. Intelligent or not, she is completely unfit for any important position unless you have something that needs to be collapsed from the inside. Unfortunately that skill is in no short supply but it's still worth trying to get her on the next ballot for president of Iran. You never know.

Let's give credit (and apportion blame) where due. The N9 is the magnificent flagship device that Elop deliberately burned by refusing to sell it in North America or western Europe. As well, it was not included in updates to the desktop sync app so that only pictures and videos can be copied or backed up without resorting to the command line. (If Jolla accommodated AWS 1700/2100 I'd buy one in a heartbeat but as it stands, even the nicest new devices seem like a step backward so I can't bear to switch from the N9. Oh well, at least I'm saving some money.)

Add that to the stupid memo and he doesn't come off looking like much of a gift to Nokia or Finland.

It's a nice phone and there are obviously many people who are quite content to be without a replaceable battery and MicroSD card slot but I don't personally know any. It can be argued that the iPhone and my Nokia N9 justify holding one's nose and making an exception on the basis of the OS but the HTC One is just another Android device and surely not the be-all and end-all. Still, if this helps them pull through, then why not.

Thank you for the sanest response to this silliness in quite a while. Sure I love having these things in my pocket (not an iPad of course, nor a canoe, while we're at it) but they're essentially specialized devices or just useful toys. A 40" LCD and wireless keyboard have significant virtues, unless of course I'm just a Luddite. ;)

It already looked like a disaster in the MS blogs and promos touting it, but what you have shown us is completely shocking and an utter disaster. Your analysis is very well reasoned and appropriate, although you didn't refer to the idiotic cultist terminology that involves using normal English words such as "Charms", in wonderfully original and unprecedented ways. Let's hope your condemnation helps to wake up someone with an intact brain in Redmond, assuming there is still one left.
