Dell buying EMC: Is this the end times, or the road to salvation?

hidaraf

IEM

Yep it looks good.

IF it begins being sold by IBM ,

AND

Purchased by the BIG Players , Then we will see something.

BUT it goes against the incumbents, Gartner,Accenture, ...

So it will take some time.

May you live interesting times, they curse you with

I will be out of the treadmill before that.

Facepalm

Not a hack/unauthorized access

It looks worse.

Bet they just plugged in a <cleaned< backup of the database and the application. And forgot about the DBA´s identity.

And it was too much bother to change everything, Including scripts, scheduling, housekeeping, etc

So I suppose there is still a long way till the lawyers finish.

Futures, futures..

On the one hand, there maybe starts The Culture

On the other hand, The Ship who Sang, and/or Soldier Blue shows a terrible possibility.

On the Gripping Hand, there comes to mind a number of "futures", from Kree's Supreme Intelligence to "I will Fear No Evil"

Here There Be Dragons.

I don´t think there is something, be it One or Many (the Pope or the UN) able, at this time, to make an intelligent (not even ethical) decision.

Gives food for thought.

Luckily, I won´t be here by then. I hope.

So what?

Banking core has 30+ years of age. Yes.

Was done by retired (age, RIF,..) people.

Nobody understands it. Not the new Kids in management, all ful of really new concepts, slides, and nice words.

Thing is, Banking needs security. So that means Good programming techniques, Good performance,Resiliency, DR practices, Change management... .

Knowledge.

Samething nowadays is missing/failing/dying.

Remember RBS.

Who paid for the FAIL ?

Remember NTbackup?

I think I remember NTBackup does Not run more than a OS change away.

So XP--> Vista --> Win 7 --> Win 8 makes at least 3.

Will it restore?

Start setting up VMs....
