Intel launches ARM battery life Windows 8 Atom chip

Re: Process Size

Clover Trail is 32 nm, while Bay Trail will be 22 nm. For now, x86 / Intel is going to have to use a smaller die to achieve comparable power usage. I believe CT is 3.5 watts TDP, while BT will be 2 watts TDP. And BT is supposed to do away with the Imagination GPU with an all Intel version. Finally, the video performance in CT is supposed to be quite good, equaling the latest desktop Atom versions. BT should amp things up nicely. The forthcoming Lenovo Thinkpad 2 will use the CT CPU and it should perform admirably as a portable desktop replacement, leaving the heavy lifting for laptops with iCores.

Re: sounds plausible

The Cedar Trail version of Atom @ 32nm is SoC and does not need a fan. I believe it runs at about 5 watts and has much improved, world class no, GPU performance.

RIP: Peak Oil - we won't be running out any time soon

3.3 Trillion Proven Barrels of Oil and Counting

The U.S. alone has at least 1.5 trillion barrels of "proven" oil shale reserves in the Colorado and Wyoming. And this does not include oil shale in the eastern U.S. like Pennsylvania. And these do not include the 1.8 trillion proven reserves of oil sands in Canada. Technology reinvents peak oil. Of course, all this oil will not be good for the environment but neither would a gigantic volcanic eruption like Mount Pinatubo back in 1991, which spewed more CO2 into the atmosphere than the entire industrial age had up until that point.
