Re: What is 'settled science' so afraid of that it must resort to theft to prove its point?

Is this like how the "Climategate" emails were stolen and conveniently leaked just before Copenhagen? The anti science side have been on the attack for a decade or more. The pro science side are just catching up ;)

Re: The BBC and Scientific Balance.

You want the BBC to start writing articles on Creationism as well? That's fair and balanced. What it isn't is scientific.

Re: Re: Global Warming is real.

You just referenced an anti-science blog funded by Heartland as part of your defense of the Heartland funding anti-science denial blogs. Standard level of denial side debate on this issue I guess.

Re: @Stephen 10 -- Re: Re: Re: Re: Would *anyone* like a rational debate?

That's because scientists do science. Huge amounts of money come from the fossil fuel industry to publicity companies and think tanks set up purely to combat the actual, real science so they can keep making a cheap buck. The denial of climate science is not rational, and saying the efforts of the FF lobby have worked on you doesn't mean the science changes. 97% of the worlds leading climate scientists agree AGW is proven and the 3% that disagree are statistically less qualified to judge. That not settled enough for you? Incredible we're still having this discussion indeed.

Isn't this supposed to be a Sci Tech site? You've got it half right. You've seriously dropped in the estimation of ... well everyone really after reading this line"

"a firmly warmist position" - warmist? Really? Is that like rapist, terrorist, racist etc? Amazing Reg. I remember when you used to be cool.

Re: "They simply wanted Doomsday a little too badly."

Greens want people to be able to live at the highest sustainable economic level possible, emphasis on the sustainable part. They want to PREVENT billions starving to death in cold caves because we were dumb animals who overpopulated and used our resources poorly while closing our eyes to the problems that might come. Smart animals keep an eye out for problems down the road and deal with them before they happen. They don't go scrabbling for maybes and ways to put off necessary change. I don't know about you but I'm in the evolved camp.

Exactly, the price of oil will still have to rise a significant amount before extraction of shale oil is economically viable. Those reserve remain useable for the future which is a good thing but dismissing the economic pain your much derided "middle classes" will experience when we're down to tapping shale oil is irresponsible.

Climate models need revising: Droughts, heat waves not such a big deal

Re: Re: Why are all the Reg env articles anti-AGW?

The CRU are a small part of the evidence collection on Global Warming, and I have read the readme file. It was hilarious but that's the way old school university departments used to write (and maintain) their software. I saw nothing more than some poor bunny being handed a huge software mess and having to sit down and sort out (partially by trial and error) how it all worked. The secretiveness is mostly a response to the concerted attacks on climate science being funded by those making a buck from CO2 pollution being free at this time.

There is skepticism then there's stupidity. I'm not keen on sites that make me dummer.

Re: Re: Why are all the Reg env articles anti-AGW?

Right, so where are the anti-vaccination articles? Those educating on homeopathy, astrology, creationism and scientology? Reg is a place people trained in logical thought come to catch up on relevant news. It devalues the whole place to see crappy cherrypicked misleading articles on climate change included with other useful content. 97% of climate scientists agree that AGW is a fact, The Reg does itself a disservice by promoting such incorrect and damaging anti-science propaganda.

Why are all the Reg env articles anti-AGW?

Looking back at the list of "Related Stories" for this article and others I can't see one saying Global Warming is something we need to do something about. There are many saying "We don't need to worry because X". How did a team consisting of climate change deniers lock up climate reporting at the Reg?

Geek girls would fail most of these

The posters looked interesting but on closer inspection the best ones had annoying errors. LIke the planet earth being larger than venus, would drive you nuts after a while. I admit to being a sucker for a pink hard drive :)
