Tim Cook: EU lied about Apple taxes. Watch out Ireland, this is a coup!

the J to the C

It's seems a fairly straight forward case, Ireland gave a tax rate way below what it should have by EU law to Apple, so that seems to me to be wrong, however Apple always do the right thing so it can't be wrong, are are they right to be doing something wrong

Very thin ground there Register

I am fairly sure that this is very close to telling your readers how to get the software illegally, I am sure the legally minded can give a clearer view than I as to if you are suggesting deception, I would guess that if Microsoft was to notice a large number of users doing so, it would then change it's process and in the end hurt the very people they are trying to help out.

So I am not too sure why you felt the need to publish this artificial, I would love to know you motives

Facepalm

And now for something different

I had a iPhone since the second one and one of the main reasons I have stuck with an iPhone is the investment in apps, the price increase goes some why to negate that, so whats next Windows phone or Android, there is little chance its going to be a iPhone

Plans for fully 3D-printed gun go online next week

the J to the C
FAIL

Re: @the J to the C

Its all about context, the topic here is the printing of a gun, not a 3D model that kind of looks like it could be something in the right light, while your £350 3D printer is something of a toy its not really going to be able to produce a gun the same as a CNC machine.

it kind of like saying that you can build a car for less than £50, sure you could but it cant do the indy 500

the J to the C
FAIL

Its not as clear as that, you could have a CNC up and running for less than £300, try getting a 3D printer fot that cost. you can even double the CNC build cost and build if from off the shelf parts and still be cheaper than a 3D printer

Re: Now i hate apple....

why are you a member of a tech forum, you clearly are a tad confused here, I would expect that having 2 years worth of human voices to improve a service is a fairly good idea, test data is so hard to find.

Re: Linux as a desktop is a failure, its time to move on

"I've got Photoshop humming along nicely in WINE", you really have no place to go after that, I stand by what I said, its a utter failure. its not a pissing contest, I have worked with windows since 3.0 and have been a mac user for some time, each OS just works, i dont need to worry about compatibility or work arounds to get things to run, they just work, like I said, the OS is the least important part of a PC

Linux as a desktop is a failure, its time to move on

Really guys, its over, will someone tell the others, as a server, it has lots of merits but a desktop OS it is an. utter failure. I have been around the block a few times with Linux had a love hate relationship from the start but the main requirement of a OS has never been met by Linux in all it's variants, that is to make things work and then get out of the way. I dont care about the OS just want I want to do with it, how many of us think I know I want to rebuild my OS to allow it to run this app or used that hardware. its been fun to play with but today I dont have a linux build working and dont see a place for it as a desktop OS. Mac OS or Windows pick one and do something rather that fix the OS

Phones are fashion

As long as there have been phones there have been trends, they come and they go, the iPhone is just another in a very long line of must have phones, BB, do have a point, the iphone is tired and is close to it's end unless they change. of all the improvements over the last few versions of the iPhone does it really make any difference to the first one, not really from a users stand point, yes there is siri and i have a few extra pixels but if i was still on version 1 of the os and version 1 of the phone, would i be missing out on anything, well nothing if my apps still worked

Re: Xbox Loss?

Intresting viewpoint, warped and woefully wrong, but still intresting to read, whereas my experence is that the iPad is seen as a toy and rather uselss at performing anything of real merit, the cruix of your post is that they are using the iPad in a replacement for printing. that's ok but it sure would be better to have a device that can be used to do real world work on the not what the iPad is. having the same OS on a tablet and a PC has some real benfits for bussiness.

here we go yet again

Government does not do good IT for a simple reason, its not the provider, it’s not even the government it’s simply the business. Having worked in government projects there is a simple rule of thumb the cost of the project will be a multiple of 100 times the real world cost. I was part of an audit of a £250M government project and we accessed the project to be really worth £5M. you might ask you why the difference, this comes from fear, really fear, the people who define requirements fit into two camps, the first is that they don’t have the intellect to understand what they are asking for and the second being that they don’t want to be put in a position to make a call that so procrastinate for ever until they are forced to say this is what I want, both result in gold plated requirements where the cost for implementation is far in excess anything that the business world would agree to. I really can explain how fearful these users are.

Having regrettably purchased a ipad that got handed to my 3 year old in swift order, I am somewhat surprised on the rise of tables as a whole. The lack of flash for one just makes the internet, well dull and inaccessible. I can't book flights on it, play facebook games or watch all the content on the BBC. I cant use it to write without an internet connection nor can I use one of my banks website. in fact I can only do what Apple says I can. what was described as a magical device for the internet can only be considered a joke. HTML5 will fix it all, well thats nice, one day, but HTML 5 is not every where yet. hey i can use it to play angry birds on, which i can also do on many other devices. My netbook came back out or retirement and it is a lot better than a ipad.

my son however does love it, he even uses it to write his name

Hackers spunk 'pcAnywhere source' after negotiation breakdown

the J to the C

its not the same

I also run Linux, have done for years along side my Mac and Windows pc.

my point i fear you might have missed, there is a huge difference between open source and closed source code, I know that with my build of Linux the releases have been managed reviewed and tested and that any security bugs get fixed and released as and when they are identified, something that the Linux development teams are fairly good for. I also know that my Linux machine and Mac are a lot safer platform to use than windows due to a few reasons, commonly that neither platform is mainstream and as such is not a prime target for hackers and virus writers (gits), they are not immune but the risk levels are far lower than Windows, to an extent that I don’t have to take the same precautions that I do on windows. Other factors is that the Mac OS has a better security model than Windows and judging by the lack of updates It’s less buggy. Linux tends to be run by more tech savvy users who have a better understanding of the risks, while this has changed somewhat in recent years Linux is still not a mainstream platform for desktop PCs. Windows on the overhand ( my preferred platform) is the biggest desktop platform by far and as such is more at risk of hackers and gits. Closed commercial source code tends to get released with known bugs, which carry a risk, some of these known bugs can be resolved or worked around with a help file and a few lines on a web page and can then be fixed in a future update. There will also be a few unknown bugs that testing has not identified. It no secret that commercial development does not always follow every step of a development process fully and some times not at all. Getting access commercial source code will give a hacker a head start, even more so when that software is used as much as this one is.

No trick a major let down

Ignoring the extortion attempt here as I am sure that if it was a simple case of pay us $50K or we release all your code, then they would have bent over backwards to keep this out of the media. Instead what you have is the total loss of faith in Symantec. A company that is one of the main players in security got hacked and then has its source code given to the world. Who in their right mind would ever install their software knowing that a hacker will be able to pull apart the software and pick over all the holes.
