Gemini: Vulture gives PDA some Linux lovin'

morbid

No mention of Maemo?

They hinted at this possibility a short while ago. I'm supposed to receive my device next month, and I'm hoping to be able to dual boot Sailfish and Maemo.

The Communicators were nice... also the paint on the 9300 would eventually start flaking off (like 3-4 years later) so you could scrape it and have a transparent case (which looked cool).

Another side-note: My LG V10 got the boot loop a few months back, and I had to dust off my old N900 to use until the V10 got fixed. The responsiveness of it is still something no android device I've used has been able to match.

White House comes out in favor of legal mobe unlocking

Facepalm

How about instead of making it once again legal to unlock devices you legally own... make it illegal for companies to lock the devices in the first place.

Man files FCC complaint over AT&T FaceTime blocking

I'm surprised people still use AT&T, though it seems people would rather try to have the government force change in business then actually go with one of the decent providers.

If they're going to pursue something as dumb as this, why don't they do something meaningful.... like have the FTC investigate all the providers for price fixing on SMS messages. For something that required no additional infrastructure... and costs them next to nothing, they sure have been raping people over using it.

I would totally get the 920...

... if Maemo will install on it.

HDD oligopoly to keep post-flood prices high till 2014

morbid

Weird...

I just got some new 3tb 7200rpm seagate barracuda drives from a newish egg place for $149. That's pretty close to pre-flood prices... though it was during a $10 off sale, plus a $20 off per drive coupon code. So $450 for 3 of those drives wasn't so bad....

Even the new 4tb drive prices have been steadily declining, but they're not yet cost effective for me.

Warner, Sony commit to UltraViolet in UK

Reminds me of DIVX, which Sony and Disney both backed, and sold by Circuit City. I'm glad Circuit City went under....

I can't watch DRM videos with MythTV, and I can't watch them with mplayer on my Nokia N900.... how are my needs suddenly illegal?

iPads propel Apple to PC market top slot

morbid

By that logic, then new game consoles, cable set-top boxes, TV's... probably even refrigerators could be considered PC's, but they aren't. An iPad is a feature device (toy?) and is no replacement for a PC.

I am concerned about our current youth and their generation. If they're spending more time on a tablet than a proper computer, how is there any chance that they'll learn to type fast and accurately?

Did the Nook not sell very well? I thought it would have at least made it out of that "other" group.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime Android Tablet

*sigh*.... another new device that's stuck on the half-ass and antiquated 2.4ghz. With all the nice parts in this kit, I'm surprised they didn't spend a little more for decent wifi! 2.4ghz around my house is way too saturated... so I'm not buying any new toys that's won't support 5ghz 802.11n.
