Apple pounces on Samsung doc as proof of 'slavish copy' claims

Stop

sarcasm-o-meter(s)

are horridly affected by the true emanation of that fine lady.

How hard is spotting so blatant sarcasm? I mean seriously - the jurors get bread crumbs compared to any "expert witness" (or to any minimal salary employee for that matter).

stanimir

at 80k you get the best experts in the field. Paying $1000 is just an insult and you can have only true amateurs.

stanimir

Re: How many people would bend perception for $80k?

you can't really even perjure[sic] yourself.

she doesn't have to indeed :D. That's her "non-biased" opinion as an ex-Apple employee.

Seriously, how a person connect to any of the sides can be an expert witness...

Re: well

Really, it goes way down to the young age where you buy a barbie for your daughter and legos for your son.

Watch this, The Gender Equality Paradox in Norway http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ2xrnyH2wQ

That being said my daughter got lego from her mom :). Researches claim such preferences are built-in in humans.

Which pretty much rules out biological differences and puts the blame on culture.

...Or b/c the job is well/better paid and the jobs in other 'female' preferred areas either scarce or not-so-well-paid (or both), the opt for that choice.

Re: 2 Gig?

2GB is a lot of space if you do not store smut on it. I bet the SD card on your phone won't tolerate error on multiple writes

Size does matter: Outlook.com punters want meatier passwords

stanimir

Re: Passwords, hashing,salting...

@JimmyPage

the app also creates a hashed code for each letter in the password

That's absolutely useless - generating all the letters to match the hash probably takes one micro second (incl. adding the salt, if present).

stanimir

Re: Passwords, hashing,salting...

They can store multiple hashes on a randomly picked parts of the password. However if they ask just a few letters - it's all bad, there is some non-trivial chance to guess it.

stanimir
WTF?

Password length?

The length of a password is less important than its strength

It's all about entropy bits and the statement alone delivers misinformation. Using 2 letters from a-z allows for more bits than the entire ASCII set altogether.

Judge rejects Apple's calls for Samsung censure

stanimir

Re: Yeah, RIGHT!!!!!

That only comes to prove: rounded corners totally triumphs over the essence of a phone - calls and communication.

So basically it is: we stole the communication part but we 'invented' the rectangle w/ rounded corners - exactly the same as a credit card!

How one bad algorithm cost traders $440m

stanimir

The ask is *always* greater or equal to the bid unless there are few sources and an option for arbitrage - here comes the microseconds decisions/orders. Market price is getting either the bid or the ask, depending which side you are at. And of course, it might be possible to place a bid or an ask on an arbitrary price in the "book".

I am just shocked how such basic info can be so eff'd up - makes the entire article look totally amateurish.

Isn't the "ask" price the price which they are asking for the shares?

it is.

@cosmo

they are tech houses with a bank or trading license and organise acordingly.

It aint happening ever. The chiefs are just suits and the computers are the necessary evil. I realize it's too simplified and any pointers to real-world stuff is strictly banned.

These systems are all over the markets; particularly in the FX arena.

Overall FX is unregulated, a lot of FX is retail and the retail is bound to lose its hard earned. The retail FX players don't really have micro-seconds strategies or possibility to execute in such manners. With that regard, the big players/brokers can effectively trade against their own clients

stanimir

Re: Zerohedge reports....

Not all (or most) 'trading systems' are based on arbitrage. I do not think it's just buying at the ask, selling at the bid case.

There are many ways for shit to hit the fan.

Re: virgin (but not the producer)?

Never a bad read at theonion :).

Seriously though, I had a close friend who actually dated a stripper. Another dated an escort... I don't know who has more dodgy, though; bah, it has been almost a decade since.

stanimir

Re: virgin (but not the producer)?

but inflatable girlfriends don't count.

do kids count or only the non-inflatable ones? I think I am safe with the latter option as well.

Out of curiosity what kind of girls have 4 legs? That smells like horrid mutation.

stanimir

Re: virgin (but not the producer)?

@AC 9:18

If staring at strippers is your thing, then at least comes to terms with the fact that the girl you're staring at probably wouldn't be there, given a real choice.

That's way too bold of a statement. Different people enjoy different stuff. While I do not claim all strippers enjoy their job, many do. Do you seriously believe all girls working in the industry do it for the money solely?

Also what do you define as "real choice": many people despise the idea of working as 'developer'?

you're actually doing them a favour by staring at their tits.

Again that's what you say: have I mentioned I like staring at their boobs? Like I told it's not possible to speak about technical stuff with/to them (sometimes it's not even possible w/ speakers on a conference but it's beyond the point). However, they would rarely decline informal chat.

Strippers also chat but that's also beyond the point.

Re: virgin (but not the producer)?

@MikeD86, I will bite on F1 thing - admittedly the chicks do not feature popping boobs but nothing much has changed - still they attempt to push their boobs closer to their necks.

Paris Hilton

virgin (but not the producer)?

I am no virgin, I have a girlfriend and regular sex, I also enjoy striptease.

Labeling it 'nerdy' makes no favor, just accept it for what it is. I suppose F1 is pretty nerdy as well and much are all auto-shows.

So having young beautiful girls who like to show off their bodies is a plus to the tech. exhibition. Of course, the girls featuring the products won't be able to answer any question but you can't have it all.

Paris, coz she doesn't like nerds either.

stanimir

Why emphasize on "single"?

Being single or not shall not prevent a man enjoying the view. I just can't see the relation between "single" male gamers and the booth babes. Removing single pertains the same meaning.

Re: all I can think of

and no present tense of the verb to be

My Russian is rusty and overall bad but that's a common misconception. There is such verb -- есть, it's just usually skipped unless it means 'have'. Yes, it's the same verb that means "I am" and "I have". And even Russian is not the single language to have the same verb for 'to be' and 'to have'

Re: Blocked for me...(UTC+2 - Finland)

stanimir
Meh

Hacking? You call this hacking?

If it's client based authorization, i.e. asking apple if something has been bought - it's only normal to be able to "hack", no much security can save the case.

If the application relies on the server (3rd party) to provide content then the hacking won't be viable. I really see no news here.

According to Borodin, only developers using their own servers to verify in-app purchases are able to dodge the hack.

I found that quote a bit later - and it has always been known to be the case. It's not possible to reliable authenticate anything without a 3rd party doing the authentication That's why there are root certs.

As a last note: If Apple is willing to sign explicitly all transaction tickets responses with a private key, then it will work. SSL alone can be fooled by root cert installation but an explicit offline public key - not so much.
