Is your kid ADDICTED to web porn? Twitter? Hint: Don't blame the internet

ItsNotMe

Hey...I have a novel idea.

"Obsessively following social media is more of a sign that your son or daughter is socially anxious and fear they will not be successful in face-to-face relationships than being unhealthily addicted to something."

Well...how about putting the electronic devices down kids...and actually talking face-to-face with others? You know...opening your mouths and making words come out? You do remember how to do that...don't you?

No...actually...many of you do not. So it's one more generation of Dullards in the works.

My brother had a Professor once, who inserted into the instructions for an exam a line that said "If you have read these instructions to this point, then you may get up, bring the exam paper to the front of the room, and you may leave. You will receive a top mark. Thank you."

He was only one of two or three students who actually read the instructions and left. The rest of the class had no idea why they left the room...until after they finished the exam.

The populations of entire villages in India still defecate in common-area fields that surround their communities, according to a Bloomberg report out Monday.

Apple iPhone 6 Plus: GORGEOUS FAT pixel density - but it's WASTED

Looks like Dead Steve may have been wrong. But how could that be?

"When Steve Jobs introduced the very first iPhone, he said, “We’ve designed something wonderful for your hand, just wonderful.” That was a phone with a 3.5-inch screen, a small enough to be held and operated with the fingers on one hand. He insisted that the company had designed the perfectly proportioned gadget, even as rivals running Google’s (GOOG) Android operating system began rolling out bigger phones. “You can’t get your hand around it,” Jobs harrumphed over the inferior products. “No one’s going to buy that.”

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-09-08/apple-seems-to-think-steve-jobs-wonderful-iphone-was-too-small

And now...meeelions of the faithful are doing just that. Could it be as simple as "pent up demand"?

Nah...must be shrewd marketing. Yea...that's it...shrewd marketing.

Apple CEO Tim Cook: TV is TERRIBLE and stuck in the 1970s

ItsNotMe
WTF?

@ Tim 69

"Speaking as one who recently had US family to stay in London, who had never experienced Sky+ (or the freeview equivalent) and the plethora of OnDemand TV via the box in the corner and Tablet/Phone on-demand apps complete with Chromecast, they were blown away at what we could do in the UK compared with what they had available via Cable in the US."

Don't know where your friends from the US were/are from, but my cable operator here in the US has dozens of On Demand channels offered free, and hundreds of other channels...including a plethora of Pay-per-View channels...both included with your monthly fee, and many more for additional fees. Well over 600 channels to choose from.

Also, anyone who chooses to pay for the Google dongle can use it here. It's not an exclusive thing to the UK.

Besides, connecting any Internet connected device to an HDMI capable tele is not exactly rocket science these days.

So I'm afraid that the UK isn't alone in its available content. There is plenty to choose from on this side of The Pond as well.

Nevada to host Tesla gigafactory: reports

"Gamechanger!"...or maybe not.

Tesla Motors: Too Many Batteries, Not Enough Demand?

Tesla Motors’ plan to build a new 35 GWh lithium-ion cell production facility – dubbed the Gigafactory – for electric vehicles that will bring about only a modest reduction in battery costs, and create significant overcapacity, given likely sales of less than half the targeted 500,000, according to Lux Research.

An analysis by Lux Research projects sales of only 240,000 cars in 2020, leading to razor-thin margins to Panasonic and 57% overcapacity…

This 57% overcapacity is unlikely to be filled either by rival carmakers or Tesla’s own plans to sell some stationary battery packs to developers like SolarCity (SCTY) for residential photovoltaic integration and other uses.

"Playbooks (which, hilarious, required a RIM handset for email)..."

Actually, they did not require a BB handset, but the first PlayBooks did not have any e-mail client whatsoever...or calendar application. Wasn't until the first major upgrade that both these items were added. And being that RIM made its reputation on messaging & calendars...what ever were they thinking? Obviously...not much.

That was the first of many huge mistakes RIM made with the thing. Along with virtually no advertising of the product...EVER.

I was able to connect my LG 3g & Motorola 4g phones to it either through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Worked just fine, but the e-mail program was poorly written.

The PlayBook had/has a fantastic screen, and great sound as well. Far superior to any other tablet on the market...even now. But...and this is one huge "but"...RIM simply promised the world to owners in regards to the new OS... for nearly TWO YEARS...then hung them out to dry.

Anonymous threatens to name cop who shot dead unarmed Michael Brown

ItsNotMe
WTF?

Has anyone given thought to the fact that...

...maybe...just maybe...the kid shot and killed was the one at fault? Hmmm?

It was reported that the kid pushed the officer back into his police car, then grabbed for his gun, then things went terribly bad.

Yea...yea...I know...that's the police version...and the "eye witness" versions are different. They always are. But why are most people assuming that the kid was innocent? How about the possibility that his friends aren't telling the truth, and may be lying? It does happen.

And as a lot of kids his age do carry concealed weapons...maybe the cop was afraid for his/her own life, and reacted accordingly.

Because that is exactly what happened earlier today (Wednesday) when a "protester" drew a gun on an officer...and the officer shot back and seriously wounded the little charmer.

"Early on Wednesday, a police officer shot and critically wounded a man who drew a handgun near the site of protests over the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, a St. Louis County Police Department officer said.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/08/13/us-usa-missouri-shooting-idUSKBN0GA0Q420140813

And before anyone gets their collective knickers in a bunch over what I am saying...believe me...police in general are not on my list of respected persons. They are right there at the very bottom...right alongside politicians.

But the reality of the situation is that there are only two people who know the real answer...and very sadly...one of them is dead.

Sorry chris...I'm a bit confused.

You state "Having worked with many government and IT entities..." yet you make a perfectly logical statement like " If you want to be successful, then you make a road map of where you want to be and lay down the foundation for getting there: one piece at a time. Where each piece is bid on (fixed), and achievable within 6 to 9 months. Any project that takes longer than that is just too much.

Don't you realize that there is absolutely no logic in government? If there were, everything would go smoothly.

Politicians would put the country's needs ahead of their own personal agendas...bills would get passed...government spending would be carefully monitored...government appointments would precede in a timely manner through Congress...there would be no need for Lobbyists...and everyone would be happy with...and have implicit trust in...their elected officials.

Not sure if there is any country on the planet like that.

That is a world which only exists in one's mind...not one that will ever exist in reality.
