DeepNude's makers tried to deep-six their pervy AI app. Web creeps have other ideas: Cracked copies shared online as code decompiled

And THIS is how you do it, Apple: Huawei shames Cupertino with under-glass sensor

Why is nobody pointing out that millions of Huawei mobiles (most of the range including the new p20) are currently crippled worldwide by a Google Play Services update sometime on or after 27 April?

Many apps that use Maps, Barcodes, Payments or even displaying Ads just get an error stating "Update Google Play Services" even tho the phone and services are updated.

Many attempts to contact Huawei have fallen on deaf ears.

People who use Uber, Deliveroo etc (don't forget some people use them as their work tool) simply cannot use them (or they can with a workaround that last for a few hour, and wipes some information from their phone).

Google have acknowledged the issue: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/79405933

If this were an Apple or Samsung error, it would be front page!

Voyager 1 fires thrusters last used in 1980 – and they worked!

Re: Orbit

At Neptune's orbit the escape velocity of the Sun is about 6km/s, Voyager 1 was doing about 19km/s then.

So Voyager 1 is leaving the solar system for sure.

Virgin Media struck dumb by NATIONWIDE DNS outage

Dont Use VM DNS

I've been with VM for BB for years, but over the last couple of years the DNS provided by them has been getting worse and worse.

When I switched to public DNS provides like google or OpenDNS, the broadband now works really fast.

So why cripple you fast broadband with pathetic DNS? Most users will not ever change their DNS, and will just say "My Broadband is shit"

Not true. You are perfectly legal if watching the prerecorded stuff. You only need a licence for live viewing.

Also if using a laptop on battery you are OK for live..... the moment you plug in.... you need a licence.

So True. My Samsung TV, just over a year old, has Freeview HD logos all over it. Does it have any of the IPTV capabilities. No. Waiting for Samsung to release a firmware update to enable it, as with the hardware on it it must be possible?

Analogue switch-off hits London today

Re: Why the local news in the national news section?

Looks like its posted in Home Entertainment to me.

Also looking through the search on the site, I can see that El Reg has covered the other regions as well with headlines like "Granada to start losing analog telly tomorrow" and "town to lose BBC 2 tomorrow" covering Whitehaven, Cumbria.

Did folks from London complain about these articles appearing cos it didn't affect them?

Re: analogue / analog ?

Its not that one is correct and one is not. Typically the analogue is British, as its origins are french and that;s how the french spell things!

However, when used technically, many standards use US English. The most obvious being a Computer Program.

I've been coding for 30+ years now. I still manage to switch between colour and color seamlessly tho. between normal writing and writing of code.

Often many of the US spellings are closer to old English spellings, so are more 'english' than our (British) spellings. Don't tell any Daily Mail readers that tho.

My cheap DVB USB stick now works.

I got a cheap DVB USB TV stick a few year ago, with a tiny little aerial. It never ever, ever worked! I think I once got Magic FM for about 5 seconds, before it dropped out... ohh the excitement of it all.

As from today - it works with over 60 channels flawlessly (some TV, some radio) as they have increased the power on some of the multiplexes. In another couple of weeks, I will get the rest as they are all being increased when the other analogues get turned off.

I had always thought it would have worked before though, as I can see the Crystal Palace transmitter from where I am sitting right now.

Google planning to brand and sell Android tablets

Re: Android UI issues?

I don't get the UI Issues either. My 10 inch Advent Vega came with Gingerbread, which to be fair, on a large tablet was absolute rubbish. But I've since upgraded it to Ice Cream Sandwich and its perfect for a tablet, and in my opinion better than an iPad, and I have used both loads.

So one must assume that the analysis of the UI must have been based around Gingerbread? But Honeycomb, whose interface is almost the same as ICS tablet interface has been out for over a year now!

As for cost - I only paid £129 for mine and its near perfect with ICS. The only gripe is that the screen could do with a wider viewing angle.

TuneIn Radio Pro

I( cannot recommend this app enough

I've been using for over a year on Android (free version) now, and saw the 20p offer so upgraded. The main diff with the paid version is that you can record.

I've got an FM radio in my phone, but I tend to use this over the inbuilt, as you don't need the headphones as an aerial.

You can set the stream quality on many stations as well, so if listening to Radio 4 over 3g, just set the bit-rate lower as it doesn't effect speech so much, and it uses less of any allowance. I find it drops out less than the FM radio does.

Number cruncher charts rise of the personal computer...

Looking at that graph, surely the trend is still upwards? There have been a couple of other minor dips and flat points, but its too early to say it has peaked after 1 years of level data.

We are also in a recession, so I know I haven't upgraded my PC (I used to regularly after 3 years). I'm holding back, and upgrading its hardware instead.

So I don't think the PC has peaked....... just yet!
