Big Tech is building the metaverse of its own dreams. You don't want to go there

Re: a dead-eyed robot selfie against a landscape of mid-'90s clip art

What do you mean "If metaverse users get to create their own spaces"? This has already been a thing for years on metaverse platforms like VRChat and NeosVR. Tens of thousands of worlds, tens of thousands of avatars and a concurrent userbase creeping up to 100,000 a night.

Linux letting go: 32-bit builds on the way out

Multilib?

The article starts out talking about dropping 32bit versions of distros, but then the wording later on seems to imply that they're dropping multilib support too (e.g. the ability to run 32bit applications under a 64bit Linux install). So, which is it?

The latter will be a major issue, for example many commercial Linux native games and programs don't even have 64bit versions.

The pachyderm punch: El Reg takes just-over-a-ton Elephone P8000 to tusk

Definitely not bad...

I bought the Elephone P6000 a while ago and it's a great phone. Never had any issues, really fast, happily plays any games I throw at it (even ones my Tegra 4 tablet refuses). Also comes pre-rooted with no bloatware either which is nice. Not bad for the £115 I paid at the time. It's honestly been the best phone I've ever owned and I've had several flagships.

Frontier wipes credit of Elite: Dangerous 'billionaire' badboys

Re: Mostly Penniless.

The bug in Frontier Elite 2 was trying to sell your ship with a crew member aboard. It would give you the part-ex value of your ship but then complain that you can't sell your ship with crew on-board and you'd keep your ship plus the part-ex value as well.

Replacements...

"But the same review - carried out by a publisher - also recommended that ebooks "deteriorate" just like paper titles, forcing Blighty to buy new copies as they would with dead-tree-printed stock."

That's easy enough to achieve, just store them all on OCZ SSDs...

BT broadband packs up again - second big outage in a fortnight

WTF?

Also Worcester it seems...

Starting getting random behaviour on FTTC line around midnight last night (connection would work for around 3MB worth of traffic and then just stop, but still believing it's sync'ed and connected).

My home network appears to have disappeared entirely around 12:20 (pm) today now.

Thumb Down

Untrustworthy

In EVERY instance where I have purchased a product in the past which has inherent issues (i.e. the Logitech keyboard that doesn't let you press W, Shift and Space at the same time) they have BLOCKED the review of the product. Don't trust the reviews/comments on that site to give you anything worth knowing.

Additionally they have also failed on their next-day delivery many times that I've used them with not even an apology for the delay when contacted about it.
