Filesystem access?
OK, so now they added content providers, that android had since its early days.
How about file system access? Maybe another 5 years?

Typing on a Sony Vaio, the best laptop I've ever owned. Second best was my previous Vaio. But a bit jealous, because the wife liked my tool so much, that she bought herself a Vaio Fit 15, with the super high res screen, touch, and pressure sensitive digitizer. So now I drool over my her asset.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is, whatcha talking about Willis?
"No - sucks for you."
Yes, it does. Big time. Give you a scenario.
Let's say I have xcode on screen one, photoshop on screen 2. Working in xcode. Now I need to do something in photoshop from a menu. So I have to mouse over to photoshop on screen 2, activate it, mouse back to screen one, select from the menu, mosue back to xcode.
And that sucks for usability. Maybe it works on a laptop, one screen, facebook browsing scenario. Not for work. But I do realize that most people only use their computers to update facebook profiles, so I guess they have 99% of the use case of the population covered.
"Unlike the o/s used by Android devices, which apparently are usually updated by purchasing a new device."
Purchasing a new device, which you fanbois do anyway, like sheep, every year the new shiny comes out?
Also you obviously have no clue what you're talking about. Google can and does update things on older phones.
But keep the butthurt iPropaganda coming. You provide entertainment.
"the iPad Smart Cover was also excellent"
You obviously have never used one of those shitty magnetic iPad Smart Covers. Because if you did, you would've noticed that:
1. offers zero protection for your shiny, at least not much more than a film screen protector
2. they come off all the time, so if you happen not to be holding the case and your shiny at the same time, your shiny will fall to the floor unprotected (see 1.)
3. they don't even work well as a stand, and hold your shiny in a way that it becomes too top heavy and fall over
But, it's awesome for Apple. Because of all the above, lots of new shinies can be sold to replace the the broken ones.
"Say, you have a girlfriend living abroad for example."
That is just an imaginary situation in your head. What you have is an ex-girlfriend living abroad, banging some Italian stallion, and instead of video call, where you might get a glimpse, she pretends to you in some scuzzy text messaging app.
Paris, she could tell you all about it.
Dunno about that. Gimmick to me is things like Siri. You ask her stupid questions, like does she like boys or girls once you get your phone and you never talk to her again.
This curved feature actually seems nice and useful every day. I'd give it a shot if I didn't already have a cool phone.
Man, from the title I was thinking Google was forcing manufacturers to sign their lives away, or at least send them a 747 filled with virgin albino sex slaves.
But all they want is the google apps installed? The search bar on the homescreen? Fugg, that's almost like no restrictions at all.
Can't believe I got clickbaited into this bullshit.
Paris, even though she's not albino, and probably not a virgin either.
@steven roper
you have absolutely zero idea of what you are talking about. your lengthy post has not one true fact in it. you don't have to have an ms account, and you can install any application, use the desktop just like in windows7, except it all runs faster. stop spreading this idiotic fud.
"My wife will moan if FB goes back in HOSTS."
Sure, but it might also have its benefits. Like you might start seeing home cooked dinners. Or she might sit down with your kids to do homework. Heck, maybe even you'll get lucky again.
Paris, because she knows a thing or two about getting lucky.
This is just so freaking stupid, it's not even funny.
Comparing a manufacturer that has one high end phone (5s) to other manufacturers that have multiple (for example S4 and Note3).
Show us numbers that matter. Total sales per manufacturer, or at least combined sales of top end phones per manufacturer. Or how about combined sales of top end phones per operating system?
Oh wait, that would attract far less fanpuss clicks.
Well first of all I have no idea what you are talking about here:
" the point of prolonging OS longer on a small device"
If what you are getting at is that you don't need anything more than iOS and ARM, that's fine, just stay where you are and keep crushing them candies.
But I keep my i7 desktop and laptop, with a real OS for photoshop, 3d, compiling a couple hundred thousand c++ lines, and other more-fun-than-crushing-candies things.
> I would also consider an iPad with a 3000mAH battery which lasts 10 hours doing video playback better than a Windows tablet with a 6000mAH battery which lasts 2 hours doing video playback.
Except if you are a doer, not a brain dead follower. Like for example if you want to paint with a stylus, with pressure sensitivity. Or write some code. Whatever. You prolly have no idea what I'm talking about.
