So, what can you photograph?

Adrian

Wedding registries - the Why

When I photographed my mate's wedding in the local registrar's office they said take whatever photos you want (including using flash - try that in a church !!). Only rule was no photographing allowed when they signed the register. Why - because the flashgun distracts the people signing and since it is a legal document they need to sign it without distractions. Afterwards it was OK to photograph them (same register, just play acting with a fancy quill instead of the Bic they used to actually sign with).

@EvilGav

What do you mean walking into a police state ? We have been in a police state for the last few years. The USSR under the KGB had a more open, friendlier police state than we currently have.

Bad title

I was hoping to see YouTube videos of them going Canadian on hapless defenseless creatures. Yet you just talk about saving a few quid in 'leccy bills.

Best description yet! @ Micheal

"DARPA, the poorly-integrated, troubling, erratically brilliant bulge-headed mutant child of the US military establishment."

There should be awards for this kind of descriptive ability.

Personally I would have included Teflon in the description somewhere.

Paris because she likes a bulging head so I hear.

AVG scanner blasts internet with fake traffic

Adrian
Stop

My take on it

AVG - run Linkscanner on the page I click on not ones I won't even look at (Google is rubbish at not giving me what I search on)

and

Everyone who is running AVG 8 - Google AVG every time you have spare time. Their paid for placements will soon bankrupt them - hoisted by their petard methinks.

@Chris G

DARPA would be there if it included killer robots. They aren't interested in humans.

How can garages legally do this

but I can't shoot an intruder in my house when he is commiting an illegal act ? Will it be OK from now on if I just ram metal spikes into his feet to stop him running away ?

Paris, because I hear she likes being rammed with something long and hard.

Steel Cloud servers to power US Navy robo-cannon kit

Adrian

Already been done

By Discovery channels 'Future Weapon' program (with the baldie ex-SEAL) - 1 or 2 years ago he did a program whereby sensors listened in for rifle shots and showed on a computer screen where they came from in a 3D sort of simulator.

Black Helicopters

So the Boeing robocopter is true?

Announcing that it'll be available in black was the clincher for me that it was 1st April as if black is a useful colour to be in the sky (even at night).

Black helicopters. Well, because....

@Phil

If the device is 4.5 by 3 inches (approx) then it'll be likely that the photos are credit card size - woohoo, that's really useful.

And to Dan - yes but this is the digital age now !!

Thumb Down

Remember why it's small...

It's designed for kids at school (also why it's cheap) - RM is branding it as their own I believe. That's why the keyboard is sized for a 5 year old's fingers :-)

Also, re people saying there is not moving parts - I take it you don't count fans as moving then ? Asus's newer 8Gb model is supposed to be fan free though.

Really want one but my Lenovo X60 has a 12 inch screen, 1.8 processor,3Gb RAM,120 Gb hard disk, lasts 8 hours on battery and has the 'nipple' mouse. Also only weighs 1.3 kg, .5 kg more than the EEE.

And if you see Nikon's latest flagship digital camera, it's 3 inch LCD on the back is very clean and viewable VGA (640x480) size so a 7 inch screen should really be at least 1024x768 nowadays.

Evolutionary database design

Adrian

So

the DB programmer/designer should be part of the development "team" but if dozens of outside "clients" access the system how is the DB programmer/designer going to work with ALL of the real programmers to keep them all abreast of weekly changes in the DB schema ?

The the real world DB schemas change all the time (I'm not only the developer but also the DBA for one of my employers main DB systems so I can speak from experience), I often change schema on DB's holding Gigabytes of data because in the real world, what management wanted on day one isn't the same as what management want on day 2.

Businesses evolve, business requirements evolve, business databases evolve. And if you don't keep evolving, well a bloke called Darwin had this theory......

Giant bird-lizard unearthed in China

Adrian

Heard it all before

The Chinese seem to like 'finding' new species - didn't they find a dinosaur bird before which when checked was just a collection of parts from other dinosaurs ?
