Google in cookie concession to dead people

Chris

Stuff

Most of the people that complain about the cookies would complain if google lost their preferences every week. I mean, I'd get annoyed if I had to turn "safe search" off every few days again. But I don't really see the need for having a cookie for 2 years. 6 months and have it self extending? Sure, makes sense to me.

US seeks mini-Imperial Walker mule-bots

Chris

Why not to use animals

It's simple politics, if a robot gets shot, who gives a crap? However, if you use a bunch of mules and they get swiss cheesed, you'll have the animal rights movement firebombing everywhere!

Court denies stay of internet radio execution

Confused

Is it legal to charge have a retroactive royalty increase? It'd be like my internet provider going: "New policy, we're charging you an extra $15, plus, we're making that charge valid as of last year. Have fun!" Except if they are the only ISP around.

Warrantless wiretap opponents lose brace of court cases

Chris

Ummm...

"The plaintiffs said their concerns were well founded but the Wisconsin appeal court dismissed the case because none of the plaintiffs knew for sure whether or not their communications had been placed under surveillance."

Isn't that the issue? That no one knows how the wiretaps are being used? It wouldn't be very secret if the targets knew they were being tapped! I can tell you I'm glad I got out of the US and live in Canada now.

Gateway brings a new twist to the tablet PC

Chris

Improved?

As someone who worked retail, and sold 10-20 of the forbearer of these in Canada (the cx2610), I would never touch one of these things again. Every single one I sold had so many issues, it was returned/exchanged at least once. Battery issues, clasp issues, pen sensor issues. Stability issues right out of the box (breaking the seal of a brand new laptop, and turning it on should not cause problems).

UK Gov boots intelligent design back into 'religious' margins

About time

Seriously, about time. Now we just need Bush to get out of office so the US can follow suit and we won't be poisoning the minds of our youth with this propaganda BS. There is plenty of other propaganda BS to fill their minds with!

Why is Hotmail so bad at spam?

Chris

Spam

I've tried the test recommended above, that being make new hotmail addresses, and never use them to see if they get spam.. and they end up getting huge amounts of spam. Eventually I got sick of hotmail dropping my account after 30 days and switched my main email to Gmail, and then I created a spam account for gmail as well. So anywhere I sign up gets the spam account (which I have forwarded to my main account). I never get a drop of spam email in my inbox. Not a drop. In the past 2 or so years I've used gmail I've had 1 or 2 legit emails get dropped into spam, and those were me signing up to a forum or what not. This email address gets plastered all over the net, but gmail manages to catch the spam from it. Morale of the story? It's not how well you guard your email address, it's how crappy hotmails spam filter is.
