US officials probe Tesla's incredible detaching steering wheel

Show me on this doll where Elon hurt you..

I expected a tech community to at least have a minimum degree of admiration for a guy who founded a string of companies that are advancing civilisation onto the next phase through the use of technology. As a professional who lived off tech my whole life I am excited about things to come and while the guy is far from perfect (aren't we all?), I am glad he exists and has done what hes'd done. Instead I come to find the comments section filled with hateful comments that anyone could mistake for plain jealous ;-)

So.. why so salty?

So it appears some of you really don't want us to use the word 'hacker' when we really mean 'criminal'

Hacking is an verb

...and attaching a connotation to it is down to the individual that uses the word and the one who consumes it.

If a bank is robbed by gunmen/woman and this is reported as such, one implies guns were used by people, not that guns are always/only used for evil or all gunmen are ill-intentioned. Now imagine a soldier complaining that the term demonises them bc they also wield guns. Silly right?

If they don't like the word's history, be smart and invent a new one or attach a cool companion word to difference yourself from the vanilla 'hacker'. I reckon that'd be easier than trying to hack the word's etymology

Supermicro spy chips, the sequel: It really, really happened, and with bad BIOS and more, insists Bloomberg

FAIL

Chip or no chip, allowing servers in a DC to talk to the outside world is just bad practice

Talking to the outside world is a carefully controlled process and it's performed by dedicated hardened gateways which include TPM (look it up). What's more.. any deployment classified Impact Level 4 (in the old classification, I dislike the new one) or above requires air tight architectures which in many cases must use diode-type gateways which as the name states, only allow traffic one way. This is why security experts also mix vendors for the different perimeters.

Would you like to go large on your hypocrisy for 50p?

I agree with big Mike that China building these camps all over the country is just atrocious...

They should've done it in Cuba and they'd be off the hook.

A contract is a contract

The point the plaintiffs make is valid - whether we like it or not - as Apple failed to disclose it was reselling in some cases. All other issues including whether data can be compromised by doing so are somewhat accessory to the core claim.

Argentina stakes online claim on Falklands

Meh

Not representative..

.. I see your point, but you cannot speak of Argentina as a whole when it comes to making these claims. Many Argentines do not support these claims although they would see a move of the islands back to Argentine control as a positive thing. Many (and I mean many) of them feel embarrassed when they hear these claims being made. Bottom line is, when they become a powerhouse (and they once were quite rich indeed), and have something we want, then we'll negotiate. Until then, it's all about who's got the longest d1ck. Nothing more, nothing less.

Also IMHO, I'd recommend being a tad more sensible about the Junta matter. Many people was tortured and killed during those horrific days, certainly not because they "let" them do it.

Thumb Up

nothing like an open-minded American. This kind of thinking is the opposite to the "general" American I mentioned in one of my posts above. The world would be a much better place if decisions would be made based on common sense rather than political and economical reasons.. but we all know that's an impossible utopia ;-)

Coat

..very mature of you. A perfect example of the decline in UK education that shows how dangerously close we're getting to the "general" US thinking. Let me guess.. you have a FB profile listing Full Metal Jacket as your fav movie?
