In fact the drivetrain-related modules run on a different frequency to the HVAC and ICE related frequencies, so a car's drivetrain modules won't even listen to its own ICE modules.
Except that the guys who hacked a jeep a few years ago were able to reload new firmware into the ICE module so that it acted more like an EMU and had full read/write access to some of the drivetrain modules that an EMU does.
Having software-defined differentiation of functionalities is not a replacement for a physical airgap.
the European Space Agency launches from French Guiana,
Not at the moment they don't. The whole country's called a general strike. Flights cancelled, no fuel deliveries to the airport, Kourou space centre is closed. Might be useful to have a backup location where the French national sport isn't so popular.
What is the cause/mechanism that gives 'never drinkers' a worse outcome than moderate drinkers?
I've seen other studies that relate it to your social situation. Moderate drinkers tend to drink in company, enjoying time with friends, and it's that social relaxation that's good for you.
The TSA are doing the terrorists' job for them. No need to actually do anything, just suggest it and the department of Homeland Nannying will inconvenience everyone for you. They'll soon be asking us to strip off and put disposable gowns on before we're allowed on a plane.
If I can't have my laptop safely with me, and my Kindle available on the flight, I'm not flying. Let's see how long US business can afford that sort of inconvenience for their travelling employees.
nobody else actually changed how their engines ran based on whether they were actively being tested.
Do you really believe that? Every manufacturer "optimises" their engine tuning for the tests, it's hard to draw a line between allowed optimisation and cheating. VW's problem is that they admitted crossing that line, which I imagine they now regret. No other supplier is going to own up now, no matter what they have done.
No, but I would be happy for the government to tax Telcos, companies etc. to pay for that.
Which taxes would of course imemdiately be passed on to their customers, of course.
Still, it's fairer than taxing everyone to pay for something that not everyone needs or wants, I suppose.
only to find that some bozo actually ran several connections using the same physical fiber optic fiber and not redundant at all. Redundancy should be a cure all but it isn't.
Redundancy does work. It's only when the bozo doesn't implement it correctly, so that there is no redundancy, that you have an issue. That's a problem with the Bozo, not with Redundancy.
From the settlement I'd guess it wasn't the Police making changes to what was required
Fom the article:
"As the report acknowledges, the scope and the complexity of the solution for i6 increased significantly during the project. This was driven by the client ... it was not possible to agree the necessary changes and we mutually agreed to end the project."
telling your navigator where you want to go instead of it getting the information from the calendar on your phone
Probably just as well. I plan on driving home to attend today's California meeting by phone. I'd not be too happy if the car headed for the coast all by itself. I suppose it would make a change from blaming the Satnav, though.
If the damned thing could fillup with water from my gas heated hot water system like the old one 30 years ago managed then I could save some money but someone managed to squash that idea
I had the same thought when I could only find cold-fill machines. The explanation I was given is that modern machines use so little water on a fill compared to older ones that in most cases the valve would shut off before the water had started to run hot. It sounds plausible.
if those people could be identified, whoever had that data would have a lever into swinging General elections.
Not any more. Our politicians no longer bother to put the effort into finding those people and persuading them to swing their way (if you see what I mean). Instead the politicians run after those people, asking them what they'd like their MP to believe, and dragging their parties with them. The consequence is that today's politicians are not leaders, they're followers. Nobody votes for followers.
So by analysing what people say & do, you can work out how they might vote? Not an especially remarkable discovery, I'd have thought. After all, people in N.Ireland have been doing that for decades, based on such traits as how one says the letter "H".
How do they get from there to influencing votes? If I'm a leftie voter I probably prefer to read leftie articles and newspapers. I can't see that they'd have much luck changing my mind with some targetted ads for the Daily Mail (or the reverse).
I can't help but feel there's some confirmation bias here. People want to believe that anyone who voted Trump, or Brexit, must be a gullible fool who is incapable of weighing the issues and making a decision. Pointing to some psychobabble about how it was all down to clever advertising that fooled those gullible idiots helps them avoid accepting the unpalatable reality; that some of those voters might well have voted as they did after a reasoned evaluation of the issues. Not all, perhaps, but enough to make a difference. A bit like mediæval peasants: "I don't know why it happened, it must be the Will of God". A handy excuse to explain something unpleasant.
we take our responsibility to protect our customers very seriously.
and
helping all our customers to keep themselves safe
So which is it, they protect customers, or they expect customers to do it themselves?
Never mind, I know the answer
the local community theater production of "Camelot"/etc
It's true! It's true! The crown has made it clear.
The climate must be perfect all the year.
A law was made a distant moon ago here:
July and August cannot be too hot.
And there's a legal limit to the snow here
In Camelot.
The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot.
Sounds just like King B's EPO to me.
