Stanford boffins snuff out li-ion batt blaze risk

How is this different to / better than a polyswitch fuse?

Isn't this pretty much how the tried & tested polyswitch fuses work, and I've seen those embedded in battery packs many times.

They trip with external heat, as well as heat caused by overcurrent.

Maybe the new stuff is cheaper? Still doesn't seem to address within-cell failures, which are the most exciting ones.

£2.3m ZANO nano-drone crowdfunded project crashes and burns

Could some kind soul set up KickShorter, where I can place bets against clearly doomed kickstarters / indiegogo campaigns?

So many people seem happy to pour money into them and defend them vigorously right until they collapse, I'm sure they'll be keen to take my (escrowed) cash too.

Of course, it'd be best if you just made off with the escrow funds after a year or so, just to teach everybody a valuable lesson.

How Microsoft will cram Windows 10 even harder down your PC's throat early next year

Is it a registry setting that says 'tried it, rolled back, stop bothering me'? If so, any idea what?

However, it's started to sound like many of the noxious parts of Win10 other than the skin are getting rolled into 7 and 8. Mere holding out may not be enough.

No means no, Microsoft. I'm not playing hard to get, I want you to leave me alone, you creep.

Spotify climbs down on new terms and conditions

I've asked whether their revised terms will be published before my 30 days is up. That 'sorry' blog post is simply an irrelevance.

Easy ... easy ... Aw CRAP! SpaceX rocket ALMOST lands on ocean hoverbase

If it's just the last few meters causing trouble, can't they just have a huge ball pit on top of the barge?

(some thermal issues and a probable need for a clamshell to close over the engine, and probably a million other problems. But yay, massive ballpit).

Disney wins Mickey Mouse patent for torrent-excluding search engine

Re: What happened to USER requests?

There's a 'verbatim' button on the left of my google search results, that appears to bypass all the 'helpful' sounds-like matching, and deliver the results I was looking for.

I'm not sure when it appeared, it may also work for you.

Intel's homage to Raspberry Pi: The much pricier Minnowboard

Re: Clueless

"There probably is value in it being fully open. "

I can't find the schematics or design files on the minnowboard.org site or the elinux.org wiki. Anyone got a pointer?

Nissan to enter 300 kmh electric car in Le Mans endurance race

Well, yes. Since this it the car they're planning to run in 2014, its absence from the standings this year doesn't shock me. FAIL indeed. .

For what it's worth, it'll be absent from the standings next year, too, what with being unclassified, so don't be too stunned then..

Market watcher ayes claim iPad 3 to sport 1536 x 2048 screen

OCUK have got 2560x1440 27" LED IPS for £320 , which isn't a bad cost per pixel.

As for the guy wondering whining about the high res, and wondering who the target market is - I doubt I'm Apple's target market, but I very much want a high res tablet for the workbench. PDF datasheets, schematics, spreadsheets, in a handy nonpaper form - yeah! I may even choke down my loathing of iOS for that. Or wait for a proper manufacturer to play catch-up.

At the moment, I run a pair of (3840x2400 22") VP2290b's , but as a secondary display, a tablet would be nice, if only it had a useful resolution.

There is fail, Salerio, and it's yours.

You may, or may not, wish to rethink your comment.
