Sorry to say this, but the pirates back on the spanish main in the 1700's stole the fruits of others work as well, as opposed to a privateer who was a pirate for their government through the use of a letter of marquee.

So... a pirate is a thief, pure and simple... if I download linux (someone else's work) does that make me a software pirate because it is covered by a licence.

Have you ever walked out of a store after paying a lower price for an item blaming it on the clerks error? well thats thieving as well. The honest thing would be to point out the price and say you got that wrong.

I would include some form of public humiliation in addition to the 10k fine and the community service.

I would also include a 5 year suspended sentence of 12 months incarceration and another 10k fine to be acted on if he behaves in an anti-social manner again.

I am quite certain that this yob would behave in a similar manner again and so he gets locked up and fined another 10k :D

As for the suggestion that Micro$haft should keep the XP activation servers going or supply a tool that kills the activation process, you will probably be able to buy the tool off their website for $10.00 (and they will probably just rename WPA Kill after ripping it off)

I reckon that the open source developers and all of the other developers whose work Microsoft has infringed upon should setup a multi-billion dollar law-suit against Microsoft for their infringement on their IP works.

The number of standards that Microsoft has embraced and extended and ruined for their own purposes is pretty high and if all these people get together and threaten to sue them, Microsoft might just shut up about Linux infringing on MS IP works.

Infact, I would love to see what IP works MS is talking about.
