I think we are in danger of bottling in our own potential as a species.
The current civilisation does very little to encourage creativity in the general population, preferring the masses to be consumers foremost to keep the system of profit ticking over.
Set up right, an A.I. based economy could provide a meagre stipend for all out of work humans, but that will not lead us very far in the long term, even a generous stipend so we could spend our entire lives 'on holiday' would quickly doom the race to lethargy and apathy (nice though the idea sounds of always being on holiday). Even concentrating entirely on the 'arts' would not serve us in the long run, we'd end up not knowing how things run.
All these scenarios have of course been played out in Sci-fi over the years, so techies should be aware of the potential problems and pitfalls, but I'd guess we're going to run into them all regardless, cause to many decision makers, those are 'just fiction'.
Clearly we'll need a change to the entire focus of civilisation as these changes come in, but the establishment doesn't like monumental changes in case afterwards they are no longer the establishment or are irrelevant.
Letting their bretherin lose their jobs would not go down well with the level of contributions to their re-election campaigns and to hell with its accuracy.
Well, that depends on whether you can attribute any empathy to Politicians for any creatures further down the food chain. If it looks like it may save money and make them look efficient... There's always another herd of CEOs ready to off a generous financial nipple....
Erm, my metaphors got a little jumbled there....mondays...
Thatcher?
Somehow I can't equate liberal with Thatcher and gods alone know what the neo prefix is meant to mean (neo from the matrix?). We had 'new' liberals during the 80's, but they were the Liberal party, the SDP, then the Liberal SDP (bit of a separation, courtship and remarriage thing).
Is the 'neoliberal agenda' something to do with UFOs reptiles and aliens?
I have a picture in my head of a couple of bad hombres tongue wrestling. Is this another British usage that doesn't cross the pond very well?
Well, with Trump, there's that promised wall, so supposedly all the 'bad hombres' will be on the other side of it - US tech execs will need that extra cash to pay it's native citizens to manicure their expensive lawns - supposedly also they'll have to make everything on US soil too
All the popular holidays (xmas, easter, halloween) are originally pagan in origin.
Xmas was just rebadged from rebirth of the Sun to birth of the son of god, easter is named for the Hare goddes Eostre (now it's bunnies instead of hares - eggs 'cause it's fertility thing) and halloween for death. Birth, coming into fertility and death and the afterlife.
Being in french, it almost looks poetic.
I wonder if they are aware it resembles the framed and mounted dictates of that horrible woman from Order of the Pheonix - Theresa May - that was it?
Getting older, you loose interest in the passions of your youth or you become more jaded as you've seen it all before several times and the myriad disappointments, merely gritty little niggles at the time become large hills of disinterest and finally the mountains of I can't be bothered anymore, just give a good book and a nice fire.
Then there's Douglas Adams 3 rules on reaction to tech (there might be an undiscovered fourth).
Trailer vids for new devices always make the product look exciting and trendy and above all social.
My experience with the 3DS has not lived up to any of these. Which is fine, I only bought it for Ocarina and the promise of Majora (which was fulfilled - eventually). I only have a handful of games for it - but I've never had a huge catalogue for any Nintendo device - apart from the Gamecube.
I rarely buy into consoles at launch, preferring a wait and see attitude - last console I did buy into at launch was the Dreamcast - maybe I'm just unlucky - my first foray into mobile gaming was the NeoGeo pocket color - which also got withdrawn a few months from purchase.
Whether it'll be another Wii or a Wii-U I wouldn't like to say at this stage.
Clearly not, they haven't been allowed to make any decisions since May took No. 10.
This is just more press manipulation so they can point to it as an example of not being afraid to admit past mistake etc. safe in the knowledge those mistakes are some one elses while sweeping their own well under the carpet when noone is looking...
Will people now also be convicted posthumously for what was once not illegal but is now illegal?
Precedent - Oliver Cromwell after his death was tried, convicted, and executed (again) for the execution of the rightful monarch.
...cue the Monty 'Oliver Cromwell Song'

Apology should suffice. Will they start pardoning hanged slaves for running away, burnt heretics for being Protestants?
Protestants, Catholics, Waldensians, Witches, all were roasted at one time or another, depending on Monarch.
Now people are just lightly braised before a beak in court and scorched if the red-tops get incensed with unrighteous indignation and any scars for life are more often mental rather than physical - I believe Turing was chemically sterilised*. The punishments and nature of offenses people find offensive has changed, but the nature of people hasn't one iota (see also *).
* I'm sure there a plenty would suggest it for todays scapegoat deviants.
With internet, the world is becoming a global village — and like in any village, everybody knows who you are and what you are doing, you have no anonymity, and it's impossible to hide.
Everybody will know who you are and what you are doing...And I bet the occasional dangerous lunatic will still be identified and then forgotten about due to bureaucratic bungling - then used as an excuse for the next round of 'let's build a dystopic society'.
The decline of this civilisation (like Rome) cannot come soon enough - maybe the next one will finally get it right eventually.
I'm not a prude, but I still don't feel I had (or have) a decent sex life.
And I had to look up most other references apart from the victorian era ones (bloody hell, who was you grandfather, Methuselah?).
So called sexting may not be 'new' but is certainly easier and more convenient... meanwhile keeping a relationship going seems to increasing in the difficulty curve.
'bum' icon 'cause that's how I feel.
..and not in a state that has surveillance and a out of touch head of state busy awarding itself medals and nut-job inward facing government that thinks it's a proud world power and not a wacked-out former entity with fading infrastructure living on fading victory.
Oh, wait now!
Wonder what would happen if DeepMind was asked the following questions...
Fat chance on any of those questions until it can deduce the existence of rice pudding and income tax without it's new memory 'bank' - shortest distance between two underground stations indeed...
They only want it for some Siri or Cortana like surreptitious data collection reason.
This is what passes for publicity by the Buckingham Palace bureaucracy these days?
Obviously one of the younger Royal doxys failed to have a baby on cue so they had to go to plan B and reach for a medal she could qualify to receive and had not yet been awarded.
Couldn't they have had Harry dress up as a Nazi again? As publicity stunts go, this is pretty weak.
As a species we're not responsible enough to be dabbling in AI yet.
God's forbid we manage to create something self-aware (I'm aware that might be a little advanced for current progress, but as a species we have a tendency to stick our fingers in the electric sockets of the universe and then be surprised when we get shocked).
'Fourth Industrial Revolution' indeed, it'll probably lead to slavery then enslavement.
Where are the Windsors whenever they are needed?
Giving themselves medals for not having gotten a criminal conviction despite the fact that scandal would prevent such a circumstance and they'd never be in a position that desperate.
I wouldn't expect modern thinking from Whitehall, apart from the dogged mindset that if they can read everyones mail then no bad things will happen again ever.
All bets are off, 'french beach' topless is practically de rigeur, she'd be due a fine if she were wearing a 'muslim wetsuit' however...
Why '40 year old men' exactly. I'm feeling old, dirty (and under par - (five hours?) doubt I could last any more than ten minutes in that unlikely scenario).
So apparently the serial molester has risen from the dead to continue his opportunistic preying under the guise of charity work...
Sounds like a plot for a B-movie.
I'd guess if it's consensual sexting, merely being investigated, even if a prosecution is not pursued would count as a significant trauma for a young person IMO.
They really need to look at the law again over this, the shadow of victorian morality is still evident.
'Children' should be allowed to make mistakes, and it's society that should ensure they not suffer unduly for those mistakes but learn from them - otherwise what is childhood for, and adults have failed as mentors for the next generation.
Don't worry, you're probably not missing out just because you don't have two knobs.
Ask a Kangaroo whether this is true......or maybe someone whose 'slept' with a kangaroo....
...ok, I've had too much coffee...I've my cloakroom ticket right here, Miss, no need to fetch the bouncers, and no, those aren't zoo staff chasing me.
Given that Pitt the Younger has been dead for over a couple of hundred years it's going to be hard finding a living ancestor to do that.
"Ancestors go back more than one generation. After all, I'm a living ancestor descendant of all my great-great-great-great-great-grandparents."
FTFY - and now you know the why of the witty comment.
She was running false colours in the Remain campaign throughout
Of course... remember, everyone thought Remain was going to be the majority vote, it was a career decision, not a conscience decision on her part, her right-wing police state dreams belief in British sovereignty was aired in a foo-pah early in the campaign (you know the one, about staying in the EU but leaving the ECHR).
...we need a 'witch' logo (or at least a 'Sea Devil' logo) in these times...in the meantime, have a Paris one as a cheer up. (If you are wondering whyI don't know what people see in her either).
"Pandas Monthly"
- Womens Weekly?
"Are you under six years old and less than thirty centimetres tall?"
- No way Soo is under six, she's been claiming that since at least the early eighties...
I dare not watch any further!
You'd have missed a rather good Cilla Black impersonator... and the best bit IMO the dodgy blind date contestants, Butch the dadgy Landaner and the northern snake - and Sweeps totally inappropriate answers that put him out of the running immediately.
- And the main point of the episode where at the end Soo admits there's probably nobody else for her than Sooty.
Classic telly, that for a kids programme, I was surprised to find I enjoyed.
We are told that this all-singing, all-dancing government IT project “will also notify and update victims and witnesses of crime about the cases they're involved in.”
Overhauling a system that's been layered on since the 15th Century would seem to warrant more than a 20 page document.
Nope, not going to happen. Even if it does get delivered for the magistrate courts, it'll fail when they try to apply it to criminal cases as usual not enough thought has gone in as the Gov. thinks it can just apply IT like a nice new cosmetic make-up and the entire system will work more efficiently, be user friendly and make everything bright, shiny and new.
Kind of puts me in mind of the intro to Syndicate Wars, with the chipped individuals vision is all sunshine, cafes and waving policemen when the reality is a broken dystopian future drenched in grimy polluted rain and conviction by algorithm.
I'm off to weep quietly in the corner with a pile of Trivial Pursuit question cards.
Take the pre-school version, a handful of easy answers might help you feel better. For advanced therapy, I suggest chemical advancement - alcohol is a good chemical - After a bottle or two and having gone through the entire pack - you'll be convinced you're ready for Mastermind or MENSA.
