It's just part of the narrative that despite there being NO scientific evidence WHAT SO EVER for extra terrestrial life, intelligent or otherwise, we are of course about to discover it.
Out of the untold trillions of stars out there, one flickers in a way we have not yet observed....So it must be a Dyson Sphere....HAH! As if! Get real.
Not even a scrap of lichen clinging to life on the back of a rock on Mars.
Total electromagnetic silence in space apart from the clicking of quasars and the humming of stars.
"Presumably by the "elected and removable" option you mean the EU, with it's members all directly elected or appointed by directly elected members?"
Do we as a people elect all of the government that rules the EU? No.
Can we as a people remove this government who for the most part we have not elected to power? No.
This way no one has control, but all are UNDER control, and under the control of something that is not elected and is unaccountable. Do you not see the danger of that, where that path will take us?
If you can't see this, how can you truly understand the benefit of having an elected and accountable government in the first place.
"Wanna got to spain/italy/greece on your hols? Better get used to paying £100 per person for your visa in future."
"Is that what you want, cos that's what'll 'appen?"
Yeah, cos I'm sure the Spanish are just desperate to reduce the numbers tourists spending their money in Spain.
One non-obvious reason that should be the most obvious of all but for obvious reasons is not at all obvious.....
Do we want a government that we people of this country elect and hold accountable ruling over us, a government that we can remove if we want to. A system of government that we fought a civil war to establish and has maintained this green and present land since the 1600's.
Or
Do we want to give that up to replace it with a government that, as a people, we do not elect and cannot hold to account?
It's that simple.
Hey, if you choose to use their platform. Then you choose to use their platform, part of which is a requirement to agree to their terms and do things their way.
Personally, I think Google is now a very creepy and untrustworthy organisation but if someone is hell bent on trying to make money through their online platform then they will have to bitch themselves out first so Google can take everything they can. Like it or not, that's the truth, the only people that will ever change that situation is Google themselves. Legal, lawful, illegal, it doesn't matter, they will do what they want one way or another. People should wake up and consider their choices and who they do business with.
"you're going to raise your kids to be scared of gay people too?"
Sorry, but the only moronic fears and nonsensical bias around here is clearly in your own head. As evidenced by your incredible douche-bag comment with regards to what YOU THINK I think or how you might imagine I'm going to raise my kids. It's only matched by the irrelevance of your thoughts with regards to such. Idiot.
"Oh, oh! I've got another question.
What if a homosexual worked on the development of, let's say, breakfast cereal. Would that mean you had gotten 'the gay' inside you? What about your kids?!?! Think of the children!!!!!! they will have gotten the gay inside them too!
Hey! Maybe that's it! Homosexuality isn't a naturally occurring variance that just seems to be everywhere because of the incredibly fucking huge number of Humans all connected (probably with wires that have the gay on them). No! Homosexuality is a vast conspiracy by the breakfast cereal people to turn your kids into fruit loops (Ha!).
Holy shit! Fruit Loops are made from (gay) people!!!!!! Why did you leave us Charlton Heston?"
So.... because of that moronic, nonsensical rant, I should allow someone to push their homosexuality into my kids lives? No, thanks.
That people are queing up to have these glasses that turn the wearer into a comodity for google, a company that has no other motive than to expolit data about people for profit.
No doubt it'll be a great success as the usual crowd of people decide that they will look fucking awesome in front of their peers wearing google glasses and doing all hand gestures and shit.
@OP
Sorry, as dramatic a picture as you paint, I don't think it's true to reality. An alogrithm (in this context) is simply a set of rules and those are rules written by people. Sure, the process may be automated but so what? Very few people work from purley mechanical systems because they are always prone to losses at some point because market conditions change.
"They are basically playing the largest MMORPG in existence and they are using our money to do it......"
So, have a go yourself. Anyone can access the markets, it's not difficult. Then you can risk your own capital, make your own gains - REAL GAINS, REAL LOSSES all based on your own ability and decisions. But be warned, the potential for success with financial and personal freedom is as real as the potential for loss and failure.
"You have been fooled by the polish."
The "polish" being a carefully crafted campaign of hype, misinformation and psychological manipulation.
Kinect is a joke. Anyone with half a brain (well actually, anyone with a full brain) can see that it's crap.
The only success was the bottom line and a marketing campaign that was hype and psychological manipulation of epic proportions. Whoever designed that marketing campaign, they are the winners, they did a real number of the Plebs with that one.
They knew that by raising expectations of kinect to such levels by the time consumers got hold of it, cognitive dissonance would kick in (google it) and they would convince themselves that it was brilliant!
Apple do this too. Jobs was an excellent manipulator. Just think of all those "un-veilings" of apple products, pure brainwashing (for want of a better phrase) techniques.
Some people are resistant to it, those are the ones that get pissed off.
"Or is this "sharing" thing only one way ?"
No, of course it's not one way. If you share your stuff, then we will consider giving you a job in our organisation and share some of our money with you on a monthly basis. That's the deal on offer. If you don't want to do business that's just fine, the door is over there. Oh, on your way out, could you ask the next candidate to come in please.
"Plus, the issue isn't just the time; it's the obnoxiousness of doing all that crap, and then doing it again while wrestling a bottle of mountain dew and a package of swiss rolls off the counter."
So, all this tech is being developed and implemented at great cost simply so that people have half a second less hassle when paying for stuff and it's clearly not about making money for the credit card and payment providers who are investing large fortunes funding it all - Sheeple logic at it's finest. Bury head in sand, fingers in ears, LALALALALALALA.
Problem sheeple?
Also, who said I am anti-establishment? It's just the truth.
I'll tell you what it's for and it's nothing to do with convenience i.e. "well it usually takes me 0.5 seconds more to get my wallet out rather than my phone so all this extra tech is a no-brainer really"
That's sheep logic at work. All this tech isn't being developed and implemented at great cost just to make life 0.5 seconds more convenient for you.
Oh no.
When you use a credit or debit card, a percentage of the total amount goes to the card providers, known by everyone as credit card fees. Most retailers choose to absorb this cost with a mark-up on their prices rather than adding it separately to the total. This means that those customers who pay with cash do not benefit from a price with no credit card fees.
Many small purchases (coffee, newspapers, drinks, food) are still made with cash, using cash keeps the credit card and payment providers out of the transaction, which in turn means they can't make money from you spending yours. NFC is here to change that, it's intended to replace cash with a system that allows credit card companies and payment providers to take a slice of every transaction, like a tax if you will, from the credit card companies.
It will of course take off like a house on fire, because the credit card companies and payment providers own all the large corporations that own all the retail businesses but mainly because Sheeple just love it when their lives are made 0.5 seconds more convenient.
It's specifically about tax and tax cuts but it all counts for the same when referring to the economy.
“Let’s put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to £100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
the first four men, the poorest, would pay nothing;
the fifth would pay £1;
the sixth would pay £3;
the seventh would pay £7;
the eighth pays £12;
the ninth would pay £18;
and the tenth man, the richest, would pay £59
“That’s what they decided to do. The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement — until one day, the owner threw them a curve (in tax language, a tax cut).
“‘Since you are all such good customers,’ he said, ‘I am going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by £20. So now dinner for the ten only cost £80.00.
“The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six–the paying customers? How could they divvy up the £20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’
“The six men realized that £20 divided by six is £3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, Then the fifth man and the sixth man would end up being PAID to eat their meal. So the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay:
as before, the first four men paid nothing;
now the fifth man also paid nothing;
the sixth man now paid £2;
the seventh paid £5;
the eighth man paid £9;
the ninth man paid £12;
leaving the tenth man with a bill of £52 instead of his earlier £59
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free.
“But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. ‘I only got a pound out of the £20 reduction,’ declared the sixth man, but he, pointing to the tenth. ‘But he got £7!’. ‘Yeah, that’s right,’ exclaimed the fifth man, ‘I only saved a pound too; it’s unfair that he got seven times more than me!’
‘”That’s true,’ shouted the seventh man, ‘why should he get £7 back when I got only £2? The wealthy get all the breaks!. ‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison, ‘We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!’
“The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night he didn’t show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered, a little late what was very important. They were now £52 short of paying the bill.
And that, boys and girls, journalists, and college instructors, is how the tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table anymore.”

Or not actually.
Kinect to replace keyboards and mice huh?
I'll get ready to be massively underwhelmed then. again..
Can I do that? Can I get ready to be underwhelmed? Would that work?
Oh yes, I can. I remember now, I dumbed down my expectations for the original Kinect and was still massively underwhelmed.
So... god knows how bad this is going to be.
Faster? By how much? A few seconds? Well that must be worth it then.
It's cheaper than handling cash because the banks make it so, and only because they are initially trying to encourage retailers to introduce another cashless system.
I've given it some thought and it seems to me that the banks want everyone using cashless because they want the ability to take a slice of every single transaction once they can do this and control it, they own everyone.
The benefits to the consumer are non-existent, it's a control method pure and simple.
Your hard cash is yours, the banks want it.
