Facebook: Want to stay in touch? Then it's Messenger or NOTHING

Belgarion

Re: whatsapp...

I use it for the same reason - friends on other continents. I don't have (or want) Facebook apps installed on any mobile device. My PC is sufficient for what little Facebooking I do. If Whatsapp starts giving me FB notifications, I'll delete that as well.

I can survive with basic SMS texting.

Sorry dude. I may have no dress sense, but I always try to look my best at work. Those in charge DO notice. And so do those members of the opposite sex whose eyes I'm trying to catch.

Haters can be ignored...

As a concept, DW is still one of the best out there. It's BRITISH. More than that - it's ENGLISH. The BBC owns it. And because of those "nostalgic middle-aged fans", it automatically had a viewing base. I got my kids hooked because I made them sit with me and watch the first episode of the reboot. Nostalgia for us old farts, young, handsome and hot (Martha, damn!) for the younger generation. Even the haters still watch (for the most part).

Genius marketing.

Nice to know I'm not alone. Having said that, isn't that what DW is all about?

Generally agree with you comments about Tyler/Tennant, but at least it was watchable and enjoyable. Completely agree with Torchwood comments. I just suffered through Battlestar Galactica. Religion and children - the whole thing sucked to high heaven.

Apple's iPad not so shiny once you get it home

Belgarion

Timely reminder

"Before you wonder why they shelled out over £400 for it then, it turns out not all of them did. The survey found that 14 per cent of people polled had been given the iPad as a gift and hadn't had much use for it in the first place."

I fall in this category. I was considering one as a gift for an iPhone user even though she shows no interest in them (I took her by a shop to see how she would react).

This article was the last nail in the coffin. The money would be better spent elsewhere than on a £500 coaster.

Hands on with the Sony PlayStation Vita

Belgarion

My first gen PSP is finally dying. The headphone jack is dodgy and the joystick lever has fallen off. But £400 for a new unit? A bespoke memory stick - meaning my existing Pro Duo is not supported? I only play games occasionally, using my PSP primarily for music, but I do play. Under £200 I might have done.

Well done, Sony.
