Genetic evidence

On the below link drop down to page 1111. On that page look at section "D". In that chart of correlations with intelligence look at the top correlation with Alzheimer's. Trumps father had Alzheimer's. Look at the list of correlation negatives for mental health and intelligence. It is a very close match.

As for harm, he has stated he intends to cancel NAFTA. That will harm most people in North America. Then there is all the shit he is dumping on people in the medical system. That includes my mother.

TheElder

Why the Trump (words I will not say)

1: There is genetic evidence he has real brain pathology

2: It isn't just about racism. That is just part of it. He show no capability to do anything that makes sense. No trace of logic. The downvoters are clearly just surfers, not programmers. Or maybe they constantly crash.

3: He specializes in causing harm to as many people as possible.

4: He is a corrupt as they get.

Here is a good example:

Re: Something worth remembering

We have something here known as beaver fever (Giardiasis). They are nearly invisible parasites that inhabit what looks like perfectly clean water in lakes and streams. I always use a Zeolite water filter. Giardiasis can make you very ill.

When symptoms occur they may include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and weight loss. Vomiting, blood in the stool, and fever are less common.

Can North Korean nukes hit US mainland? Maybe. But EMP blast threat is 'highly credible'

TheElder

Re: Obvious question. Could you split the whole grid into smaller sections to be more survivable?

Last I checked it is a DC powerline that runs from in or near Canada all the way to California. Take that out and the west coast of the US is dead. It does depend on weather now since California is not able to even sell all the solar power they generate. There are also independent power systems. In the Central Interior of BC one small city runs on it's own co-generation plant that runs on wood chips. It is usually not connected to the grid at all. There are other places that are powered by hydroelectric systems that can be disconnected in Canada.

TheElder

Re: Bigger is not better

Enhanced EMP devices only need to be maybe 6 KT yield to act like a megaton or more. Kim has Russians working for him, the same people that developed those devices. It is even possible than one is already in orbit.

EMP can also be done with conventional weapons.

gamma/x-ray emissions

From what? Plutonium that isn't fissioning emits alpha rays. That can be stopped by a piece of paper.

I worked at the Rad Lab when I was 14. The bomb will NOT be close to fission until triggered. If it was it would change shape. Plutonium is very unstable with even small changes in temperature. I suggest you research plutonium metallurgy.

US Navy suffers third ship collision this year

TheElder

Low tech method of attacking

It shouldn't be possible. My son was at the helm of a Iroquois-class destroyer in the Taiwan strait one time. Visibility was poor. They were at normal cruising speed. They suddenly detected a rogue fisherman with his nets spread in the middle of the channel. Most military would simply run over them, too bad, so sad. This was the first time my son was at the helm so the captain gave the order for hard to port.

They missed the idiot but most likely chopped up his nets. It also wasn't very funny for the crew as the ship heeled maybe 30 degrees. That dumped people from bunks as well as large pots of food in the galley. My son was ribbed a lot but it certainly wasn't his fault. He was following orders.

TheElder

Why-ever would a fast ship choose to cross the bows

The usual reason is incompetence.

Re: I am just waiting

Victoria is one of the safest cities in North America. Many people here smile.

TheElder

I am just waiting

To see something like this where I live. I am in Victoria. The waters here are about as busy as it can be. We have all sorts big and little islands, cruise ships, numerous ferries, tankers, sail boats, fishing boats, cabin cruisers, research vessels, whale watchers, movie makers, yachts from all over the world, barges, military from both sides of the border with submarines.

I may have missed a few. These all must go through the quite narrow Straight of Wanna Fuck You. While it may look wide on Google Earth the actual channel is narrow. There are plenty of rocks. The entire area is mostly forms of granite. You want to build anything? Blasting is required.

Something I cannot understand

How is it possible that us humans can somehow allow a single person be directly responsible for death of millions of people? It is so easy to stop a person. Why didn't somebody, anybody just take out someone like Genghis Khan? He was responsible for killing uncountable millions of people.

The concept of people being totally blind followers mystifies me. Now it is possible for a brainless idiot to kill much of the world population.

What weighs 800kg and runs Windows XP? How to buy an ATM for fun and profit

TheElder

Why use an ATM?

I just get some cash when I buy groceries. I never use an ATM. Why should I? I always carry enough cash in my pocket to buy what I will most likely need the next week or so. When the lights go out I can still buy essentials. Local or even grid failures have happened before and will happen again.

I do not carry a wallet either. I carry an antimagnetic credit card holder with only the absolutely necessary ID and one credit/debit card, plus some tightly folded $100 bills. That in is a front pocket where it is far more difficult for a pickpocketer to pick my pocket.

I am trying to imagine a picture of a pocket with a picture of a pickpocketer taking a picture of a pickpocketer pickpocketing the pocket of a pickpocketer taking a picture of a picture of a pickpocketer picpocketing my pocket. Now, in the other pocket....

Re: So Mr Darmore, girls are not fit for IT?

That was not the assertion by Mr. Darmore and not by me either. The question is who is more likely to be good at IT. We are all different.

Think of it this way. How many people know how to change the oil in an auto or put in new brake pads? Not many women know how to use an angle grinder but some do. Some are very good at it too. Same applies to men but the proportions are different.

This is a smokey planet and always has been outside of the ice ages. It very much depends on how much smoke you inhale. I smoke a pipe and always have. I use the equivalent of maybe two cigarettes per day. My health risk is the same as a non smoker living in any polluted city, or less.

Waymo fleshes out self-driving car tech with hardware that goes soft at first sign of trouble

TheElder

Total nonsense

I drive a big V8 Durango. This time of year I have not filled the tank for over a month since I ride my bicycle. When I do need to pick up something big/heavy then I drive the Durango. Last time I was out in it I was turning at a two lane wide left turn across oncoming traffic (stopped at the red light for them). I was on the inside of those two lanes. Another person in a very small car turned at the same time as me. He was in the outer lane. That lane merges with my lane in a very short distance. He was trying to beat me to the merging point. No way he would make it in time.

I had two choices.

1: Hit the brakes. That would then put the person behind me far closer to me, tailgating and stacking up all the traffic behind me.

2: Pedal to the metal. This convinced the other driver to the right of me to slow down and it also gave him plenty of room to merge behind me.

I then nailed it to the speed limit. A bit further there were some workers in the center of the lane divider working on shrubbery and grass. There was no lower speed limit posted but I slowed down to half the speed limit anyway just in case somebody made a mistake and tripped/backed into the actual traffic lane. I was driving the same as most police officers.

The man behind me dropped well back to a very safe following distance.

I drive like an unofficial ghost car. I learned how effective this can be when I once had a vehicle that was the same make and model as the real ghost cars. I also had the same haircut as the officers and would wear a jacket that looked similar. I also stuck a fake antenna on the top of my vehicle that looked the same as theirs.

I was legally impersonating a police officer. I knew many of the officers since I was teaching them data recovery and safety. I also showed them how I could easily hack their LIDAR by playing proper music on a retroreflective loudspeaker just behind the grill at the front above the (dirty) retroreflective licence plate.

Re: Potential hearing damage from this song

I beg to differ. I still have excellent hearing, sometimes too good. Yet I spent a lot of time at the Avalon BALLS room as well as the Fillmore Auditorium in San Fran Cisco. Me and a friend had a shiny black Cadillac hearse equipped with straight pipes on the outside and a nice bed in the back. When the music was over it was time to flip a coin to see who was driving and who was spending time in the bed with the two pretty girls we picked up. (this really happened more than once)

To get back to Berkeley we had to drive over the longest bridge in the world. It goes all the way from Fairyland to Africa. But that is because I grew up in the land of fruits and nuts.

I can't buy that!

It is an approximation. The value zero isn't. It is like the Big Bang. It is an approximation of nothing but not nearly as good as an earth made vacuum.

Some say the number of atoms is around 10^82 or so. But what if there are parallel Universes? What if they are infinite? Then the number of atoms is infinite. Not a very good approximation at all.

TheElder

Re: So why is the 32 bit version twice the size

It also reminds me of a vacuum tube (valve). It is a container filled with nothing. It doesn't matter what size it is, it is still filled with same amount of nothing.

To me it feels like an inverse of Zeno's Dichotomy paradox. Instead of not being able to cut the distance in half an infinite number of times to get to the end of the line it must be at the end of the line since the line is infinitely short.

TheElder

Re: So why is the 32 bit version twice the size

If you made it a file with maximum compression then the length would be a single bit = 0. The playback time could be slowed to whatever you want.
