To reduce mothership traffic in windows 7 / 8 /10 /11.

After every windows update make sure that every instance of diagtrack.dll and compattelrunner.exe are removed.

Also disable and/or delete all the telemetry related scheduled tasks ( there about a dozen of them ).

Pry tell me how you managed to get a Full Screen Dos going in Windows XP, 'cause I never could. At least not on the Command Line Interface any way. How it may have been for actual DOS Programs though? I can not say.

In XP - Open command prompt and hit alt-enter for full screen.

Last week I was working on a customers Windows 2000 servers that will not get replaced in the near future.

Ubuntu? Fedora? Mint? Debian? We'll find you the right Linux to swallow

As I do a lot of Oracle testing, my preference is 64-bit Centos 5

It has always been very reliable.

Running 3 Oracle instances and a couple of VM's has been fine on a machine with 6gb Ram

For testing any Windows setups I use VMware Player

Redhat 6.1 on a Pentium 75 seems a long time ago now.

That machine lasted over 10 years as an FTP and print server.

Around the Windows 3 era, The standard word processor in the company I worked for was Multimate, remember that one ?

If I remember rightly, the DOS version of Wordperfect was used a lot in law firms.
