Offline mode not available anymore?
Old final cut editor here... never used the latest FCP. Do they no longer have the concept of offline editing? I would think if you were not able to keep your firewire drive with you, you could just ingest it all as ProRes Proxy or oldschool offlineRT.
ProRes Proxy is 45Mbit... so... 20GB or so per hour.
Not seeing the problem here, even without easy access to external storage.

Sounds like both sides behaved reasonably
Elan is valued at less than 5000M NTD ( < $165M USD ), so $5M USD is not bad at all. Presumably the agreements going forward will give Apple unresitricted use of the patent, and Elan will gain future partnership opportunities with 3rd party peripheral manufacturers ( and maybe, as I'm sure the Elan board hopes, a direct deal with Apple )
