Rogue Squadron: Unit of X-wings Kickstarts in response to Death Star

Rameses Niblick the Third (KKWWMT)

Re: Supraluminal?

Yeah, we do. Luke used it in empire to get from Hoth to Degoba, then to Bespin. In Jedi, you see the entire fleet including A-Wings, B-Wings, X-Wings and Y-wings jump from Sullust to Endor to engage the second Death Star.

There is probably more, but that's just off the top of my head.

Rameses Niblick the Third (KKWWMT)

Re: Supraluminal?

Yes, X-Wings do have hyperdrive, although they do require an astromech droid (R2 version or higher) to perform the navigation calculations.

After Sandy Hook, Senator calls for violent video game probe

Rameses Niblick the Third (KKWWMT)

Oh please

" In his statement, Rockefeller said, "Recent court decisions demonstrate that some people still do not get it. They believe that violent video games are no more dangerous to young minds than classic literature or Saturday morning cartoons. Parents, pediatricians, and psychologists know better.""

If parent know so much better, then why are they buying violent video games for their kiddies? Because the last time I checked, such games carried certificates which requires the purchaser to be over a certain age.

"Mum, can I have Grand Theft Auto 5? The mean guy in the shop won't sell it to me"

"why not?"

"he says I have to be 18"

"oh, there must be some mistake, its only a video game, and they only make those for kids, don't they?"

And so on.

The 'experts' who never see BBM will never understand RIM

Rameses Niblick the Third (KKWWMT)

Anecdotally...

To be honest, we can sit here and argue the toss about which OS is better and why would we need the BlackBerry OS, and the limited nature of it, and apps for other platforms which do almost as well. It doesn't make any difference at the end of the day.

In my office, 9 people have bought mobiles for their kids* (aged between 9 and 15) and have given them free choice (within certain price constraints). All have gone for some variant of BlackBerry so they can have BBM.

Does this make sense? No. Do I even pretend to understand it? No. But then I don't think twitter makes sense either, and look how that's gone.

RIM potentially have a very bright future. If they can keep hold of this user base and keep the company running long enough, in the next 10 years they are suddenly going to have a large adult user base to move forward with.

*I know, I know. This is not a representative result set. This is (probably) not indicative of the wider population. This could not be classed as even remotely scientific. I refer you to my title.

@geejayoh History...Learn it

The Sims was created by Maxis, also responsible for SimCity, SimAnt, SimEarth, SimTown, SimGolf and so on and so on.

Theme Park was created by BullFrog Productions, who also created Theme Hospital, Theme Aquarium, Theme Park World and Theme Park Inc.

Both of these studios have been taken over by Electronic Arts, and the portfolios which go with them.

Rollercoaster Tycoon was made by Microprose after BullFrog made Theme Park, but was different enough that they let them co-exist.

Plus there is a difference from making two different games about the same thing, and slavishly stealing someone else's product and changing it very slightly.

Paper money does burn, however the explosion tends to be over rather quickly if done right, and paper money in ATM's is stored inside magazines or dispensers which means only the top note is actually in the open. So with a little luck, they may well only be destroying the top note or two. Sheets of paper stacked tightly together don't actually burn very well at all.

Re: Disagree

Agreed, I've looked at the iPhone 4S, the S3 and other feature phones from manufacturers, and the One X is the one which appeals most. It may be familiarity as I already have a Desire HD, but come upgrade time, I know what I will be getting. The phone feels nicer, and white on it's screen is actually white, rather than blue as it appears to be on the Samsung.

Such a shame that they don't have the cash for a big marketing run.

Re: So..?

I'm not finding that massively helpful to be honest. Why do I feel like the Cat in the Red Dwarf episode "Stasis Leak"?

CAT: (to RIMMER) What IS it?

RIMMER: It's a rent in the space-time continuum.

CAT: (to LISTER) What IS it?

LISTER: The stasis room freezes time, you know, makes time stand still.

So whenever you have a leak, it must preserve whatever it's leaked

into, and it's leaked into this room.

CAT: (to RIMMER) What IS it?

RIMMER: It's singularity, a point in the universe where the normal laws

of space and time don't apply.

CAT: (to LISTER) What IS it?

LISTER: It's a hole back into the past.

CAT: Oh, a magic door! Well, why didn't you say?

Can someone give a relatively straight forward explanation of this for those of us who seem to be hard of thinking on this issue?

And yes, I do mean me.

Jeremy Hunt 'sympathetic' to Murdoch's BSkyB bid

Rameses Niblick the Third (KKWWMT)
WTF?

Balance?

This is a very negative article. According to the BBC this morning, Hunt submitted something like 160 pages of memo's, emails and text messages which apparently show that his handling of the matter was entirely above-board and had in many ways frustrated the process.

So, did this actually not happen, or is it covered by the line "Hunt has dismissed such claims."?

I'm no fan of any politician to be honest. In my opinion, anyone who has done nothing in their career but be a politician is not in fact fit to be a politician. However, some balance in the reporting would be nice.

ICO on new Cookie Law: 'Don't expect torrent of enforcement action'

Rameses Niblick the Third (KKWWMT)

Late to the discussion, but...

What is the exact wording of the Google and Facebook exemption?

I ask this because our main concern is use of Google Analytics. If there is an exemption for cookies from Google, then Analytics is in the clear, given that our website does not host the code for analytics, Google hosts it from their servers and so it is a Google signed cookie, hence qualifies for the google exemption?
