America abandoning DSL in favour of faster cable

Isolated in rural America

I tried the overpriced and perputually slow satellite broadband and found it clunky and at about dialup speed. No cable TV even on the poles here, and the telco only offers dialup. Verizon recently installed a 3G tower nearby, now we use a combo of MiFi and USB data cards for Internet. We are rural and even have an Amish school across from us, so this is probably as good as it will ever get.

Did a Seagate sales bloke just say 5TB drives are coming?

Tomn8tr

Don't trust them

That's just too much data too loose at once. Seagate drives are horrendous of late. It would be too clostly to purchase a 5TB drive from Seagate and a spare while waiting for the inevitable click of death that will be along soon. They should work on first making a reliable drive, thn making a larger drive. What the hell happened to them anyhow, their drives used to be great.

The future is not so bright

I live in America and the way we give away our liberties is insane. The Facebookers give no value to privacy and it is a whole generation now. The news here is intended to create fear and make us turn to big government to save us. People blindly let former freedoms be stripped daily and no one seems to notice or care. We have far too many prisons, and they are all full to the gills. One error out of a lifetime, and you can piss off for 10 years, no mulligans or redos here.

I have only been to the UK once, but the Britts seem to have it better. Their police were nice and polite and not threatening to people. I was at Upper Heyford with the USAF when the base was shutting down. The only negative American sentiment I saw was painting on the bridges the read "We love your faces, but not your bases. Yankee go home!" It''s been a long time, and it's a shame that the Britts probably don't like us Americans much anymore. I still think of us as friends though.

Seagate pulls out the biggest hard one in the industry

Hard to believe...

Where I work, we have had nothing but trouble from any large capacity Seagate drives. Failure after failure, and we avoid them now like the plague. What happened to Seagate anyhow, they used to make good drives. I even remember installing their ST-225 (20 MB) and ST-238 (RLL 30 MB) drives back in the day, but in the last couple of years, just problems...

Also, "Seagate says this GoFlex can store 2,000 high-definition movies" - these movies must have some incredible compression, that's nowhere near enough storage space for any kind of quality audio and video.
