Doctor Who Episode One: Through a glass. Darkly

Wyccant

No one ever mentions the forgotten doctor (possibly because he's forgotten)

However, Peter Cushing was also the Doctor and starred in a movie version of the first 3 episodes.

Farcical amount of time on browser quirks?

I know that one, trying to point out to a (publically funded/charitable) customer that they are wasting over £600k a year on browser support.

The response "well corporates like us use xp/IE6 and no way IT are going to let an update change the browser"

God, I don't even want to keep thinking about how wrong this policy is on every level.

I don't care if you ARE an IT admin, you're failing to perform your duties, deliberatly causing your employer to waste money and exposing them to the oldest collection of security flaws which they pay you to mitigate.

and if you happen to be the boss, then more shame on YOU because you're paying this worthless "£$%wit good money and letting THEM tell YOU how your business should operate and blindly trusting them to keep your company safe while ignoring the fact they shun the advice of EVERY major player, including the people that wrote the software in the first place and every worthwhile security consultant ever.

Mine's the one with the blinding fit of rage spilling out the pocket.

"When I, and I suspect most people, put a single word in quotes it means that we don't actually mean what is written"

-I think this may have lead to many years of not quite getting the point. Quote marks are, well, "Quotations" as in, word for word what was said/written. I've never come across this reversespeak usage before.

and the rest of you should know by now that marketers define the universe. You "will" consume what you're told to consume, in the manner you are told to consume it.

Thumb Up

Can't we...?

Given the huge variety of ways that copyright laws can be breached, on usenet, the web and in just about every media, I think we need to change our way of thinking about communication.

We need to stop teaching reading/writing skills to the general population, most of whom lets face it have an average reading age of 7 and waste it on the Sun and FHM.

Instead I propse we find a morally incorruptable group and that they be the only people allowed to read & write. They can disseminate acceptable and useful information to the population orally, perhaps once a week meetings in some kind of hall?

belittle core Christian beliefs?

"Don't science, logic and common sense also belittle core Christian beliefs"

No. Some Christians believe science and logic belittle Christian belief. It's not the same thing.

Despite rumours held dear by many trolls evolution and Christianity are not mutually exclusive.

The belief scientific research was completed 2,000 years ago by a bunch fishermen in a desert and a Roman council seeking political power over tribes however, is at odds with evolution.
