Obama faces off China's prez: We can't be pals with all this cyber-theft

Whose got the purse strings?

Just waiting for China to call due all the loans to the US.

Over 1 Trillion in loans to the US and China just needs to call in the debt to further destabilize the US IMO.

Obama has shown he has zero clout/weight/credibility when it comes to foreign leaders. Case in point: When the Chilean president took it upon himself to sit at the presidents desk in the oval office....that's not a trivial matter. I'd bet the Chilean leader even passed gas while in the chair just for good measure.

There is significant meaning behind that bold move to sit in a leaders chair in that nation's capital. That would be like Obama sitting in the queens throne IMO. Totally inappropriate and disrespectful.

Close down the distribution site and move the jobs elsewhere.

I'm very doubtful that these shipping clerks are making minimum wage. I'd like to see Amazon simply close shop and move its distribution outside of Germany.

It's very easy to simply demand more money for less work. Europe is famous for short work days and lots of vacation time. But a successful business will not survive if costs are high and revenues do not increase to match the increase in costs. Amazon is a company with investors. No one invests in a company that losses money.

I'd like to see a union....any union, buy out a company and successfully run it. Remember the hostess company closed because a single union would not adjust to needed cost reductions. Less people eat hostess sweets and yet unions expect to continue getting increases.

Think now to the French tire assembly plant that’s been losing money and wanted an American company to take it over.....the CEO was direct and said no because French workers won't put in the hours necessary to make it a profitable entity.

"Seems like most posters here want the world run by mega-corporations."

Nope, but we don't want governments to penalize those thinkers who build and advance our societies.......by weighing them down with the forced responsibility of caring for the lazy bast_rds who are simply a drain on society as a whole.

A flat tax across the board would be fair to all, but then it would also require the lazy bast_rds to put in their fair share. They don't REALLY want to be included in that responsibility and would rather just assign it to someone else.

Thats the mission of the labor party IMO. Put the responsibility and accountability on others....while excluding themselves.

"Fair Share".....How about Google just drops offering its services for free

Anyone read the book "Atlas Shrugged"

If you haven't, then you should. Most labour party people would prefer you didn't.

What everyone fails to address is that Google offers its services for free. The costs of this service is NOT free and its NOT subsidized by the governments.

It's the thinkers in this world that create and build. If labour party leaning governments/leaders continue to punish these thinkers....then what happens when they give up?

You don't penalize the thinkers to subsidize the non-thinkers IMO.

While no one will deny TB's speed and flexibility.....General consumers do not want to buy all new (expensive too) equipment...especially when most are only checking FB or their emails. Computers need less and less power/speed to meet the needs of the general population. Only Apple forces its users to comply, so they have no choice. Non-Apple users will buy TB if their needs require it.

This technology will only benefit specialized markets IMO.

FB is trying hard to remain relevant as more and more users tyre of the worlds largest self-enrolling marketing pool IMO.

I can't say I blame (FB) them for trying to further entrench themselves in peoples lives, as its a way to remain relevant.. I'm sure there will be some fools...err followers that will bite, but as a non-Fbooker, I pass for the same reason I'll never own an IDevice. I prefer to use as open a system as I can. Google does offer lots of services, but I get to opt out any I wish and I still prefer making up my own mind, as opposed to letting some company tell me how its going to be.

for example: I'm able to stream all my music from my homeserver without the need to have any company (apple/google) host/control my content. Subsonic lets you stream music (even movies) without commercials/ads for a single one time donation (fee) and no need to upload any content like Google Play.

Writer was intent on high risk of failure

I don't know of anyone (with reasoning skills) who totally relays on a cars "Mile to Empty" gauge in any car. Everyone knows the cold can/will affect your cars battery, so this twit should have AT LEAST considered the fact that a car that relies only on battery power, could also be affected by the cold weather.

I guess the moral of this story..is not all "writers" meet the minimum required level of reasoning skills needed for use of new technology. I guess Tesla needs to place a warning sticker on the dash....."This car is not for Stupid People".

Tip to anyone considering buying a Tesla or any other battery powered car......Don't gamble on expecting the car to tell you EXACTLY how many miles you can travel, till the battery is depleted. Just as you shouldn't do the same in your gas powered car. You should always factor in a safety buffer, to counter any unforeseen issues or conditions.

The "writer" has shown his lack of reasoning or ability to foresee possible situations based on current circumstances/conditions.

Re: cooling vent?

Readers need to remember...the surface is not a "tablet" but a Tablet PC. Similar to the old Motion Tablet PC I have on my shelf. It's unable to run Win8 due to the small screen resolution or I'd be using that hardware as my tablet.

The key for any tool is...does it do what you need and are your needs simple or diverse? We have four directors who requested IPADs and none of them actually use them for work. They can't because our software is Java based. Yes they can RDP to their workstations and run the software but they are not that savvy and its too awkward. Also any apps needed had to be bought and loaded using the registered ITunes user. No corporate account can be used. Our MS site license is useless on these toys. The Admins have been waiting for the Surface Pro and We'll be purchasing four very soon.

Most general users of Ipads have very limited needs/use and the IOS works fine for that. It's just an overprice item IMO. I have a Android powered Xoom and use it daily, but my main work is in SQL Server and only a workstation will do.

Best wishes on your choice...but don't knock people who don't follow your choice.

I just have to refer to the early example of how Jobs treated his "Friend" Steve Wozniak when Woz helped Jobs on the Atari Breakout game. Jobs hide the fact that there was a 5,000 bonus payout on that project. All due to the technical expertise of Woz.

Jobs was a con-artist/car salesman then and in his later years. No respect for the man at all. He was the face man for Apple, but not the "Innovator" the general public like to believe. Just cult followers refusing to see the man for who He was. He took a $1.00 salary for the tax benefits, not because He was a swell guy. Fact is, with the state of today's US society, this kind of monitoring in US schools is one way to help ensure students are where they are supposed to be as well as helps with security on school grounds. Maybe they just need to setup camera's on campus everywhere (except locker rooms and showers of course). Even private schools have instances of violence and the number one goal is that everyone...everyone should have a feeling of safety while on campus. If a student does not wish to comply, then they are free to leave and get their education else ware or be home schooled. that nothing is free. I think its a huge laughable joke and the fact that many people are jumping into these services with both feet and then getting a surprise when they discover their is a price to be paid.

Bottom line. The service is free. No business/company can exist without revenue. It costs money to run the servers, buy the hardware, as well as pay the developers/employees. How many people would use the service for a nominal fee each month to store their content and not have it licensed out to third parties?

Users should have a choice, but they should also be realistic in the realities of how businesses work/survive. This kind of ignorance in how these services exist, just shows how dumb the general public truly are at times.

I understand it those people who are envious of the amount of money others are making/saving and that's the only reason for this kind of childish reactions. If each country is angry about companies using other nations for tax purposes, then they should work on making their nations attractive to those companies. This loud whiners are people who do not have the sense/ability to run as successful a company, and so get angry about it. In truth, they are jealous about it. If you want fair, institute a flat tax and everyone....I mean everyone pays the same tax rate. From the bloke driving the bus to the CEO running a milti-billion dollar company that brings jobs/business to each nation they operate in.

Only shortsighted fools want to attack successful companies with claims of unfairness. The political fools are the ones that can make a change, if they just shut their hot air flapping.

Fiscal cliff is not an actual cliff......

It's just the combining of expiring tax breaks and manditory budget cuts that were supposed to be so bad that the govenment would be compelled to focus on reigning in its out of control spending. Since the US President seems to have mssed the fact that the election is over...He should be more involved in the process rather than on the campain trail. But since He loves avoiding the actual job he applied for and was elected to do....It's not a surprise how little progress is actually happening.

As one of those who will be affected, I think it would be in Americas best interest to take the hit and everyone start paying their true share. Less than 50% of Americans pay taxes currently, so the poor are not contributing at all to the collective, but they are the ones using the social resources most. They even get an "Obama Phone" for free, complements of those who work and pay their own bills. Don't get me wrong, I think there are many people using social services that deserve and need them, but I also know that the system is poorly managed and there are tons of abuses and waste.

The fact that Egypt is getting about 1 Billion in foreign aid funding and 20 F-16 planes from the US staring January, shows how f'd up this country is. We have to borrow money to pay for the spending/sending of money to other nations.

My view is:

If the student really wanted the job, He could have stepped up and said I will prove you wrong. Tell me about a problem/task related to this position and let me tell you how I would approach it. Today's job market is competitive and these companies (even I) don't have time to deal adult children (and there are lots out there).

If all you do in an interview is answer the same questions that have been asked the last 10 interviewees, then you don't make yourself stand out above the rest. Having a degree is not a guarantee to getting the job, when everyone is required to have a degree to even apply for it. You have to show how you will make the company money and how you will be engaged at work.

It's obvious this is not the first person they have interviewed or even hired that fit this profile. Over time everyone learns to recognize certain clues based on past experiences.

The guy could have tried to show they were wrong about him and earned the job. If you go to an interview and simply answer questions your asked....your not engaged in the process and thus will not be engaged in the job/work. Whiners are the worst workers and this guy was whining about getting called out. He did nothing to prove them wrong.

I've dealt with employees who think they are doing a great job when they show up for work. Problem is they don't do the work when they are here. It's four times more work to manage a bad/lazy employee than a good employee who has a strong work ethic and takes initiative.

People like this guy think companies exist to employ them.....but they don't. If you don't like it...start your own company and prove you have the right stuff for success.

I think Amazon should say....Screw em and don't do business in those countries at all.

Today's liberal politicians and most of society's dependent scum, sucking on the government tit, will ALWAYS put forth the idea of putting the responsibility on others. Especially companies who lack a single face and thus are not human. They overlook the fact that smart investors do not invest in losing companies (that's a position reserved only for the US Obama Government). Companies exist not to support the needy. The exist to provide a product or service. It's the local citizens who should be responsible for caring for their needy. Employees of those companies work as long as the company can remain an on-going entity and they pay local taxes and keep local businesses open as long as their employed. If you don't think Amazon impacts your local community, think again. Local delivery trucks, fuel or even a driver having lunch in your local eatery.

Here's an analogy: A blood sucking leach attaches its self to a host. The leach is only one and the host is able to replace the blood consumed by the leach and thus both continue to live in relative harmony. If more leaches attach to and start sucking more blood from the host than can be replaced, then the host will die and the leaches will need to find another host or die themselves. Guess who the leaches are? Those sucking on the government tit all their life and their children's life. It's time to expect more for each nations citizens.

Re: Happy Bunny

It's not like Apple won't just resell your old Ipad3 tablet to someone else. They are making such great profits off each device that keeping you in the collective and buying through their stores is where the true money is for Apple and they want to keep you as a customer. It was just a smart decision since their marketplace is where they really make the money. A 30% slice of everything you purchase adds up over your one life-time.

Please don't be offended, but It's seemingly innocent/naive consumers such as yourself who don't seem to fully understand the mufti-dimensional ways that apple generates revenue. Apple could mark down their products 100-200 and still be profitable. They just know that their consumers are more willing to spend the money. Any company would be foolish not to take advantage of that opportunity. This is why Amazon is selling their tablets for cost/little profit. The money is in the buying of content and products within their own marketplace and Amazon needed to be competitive against Apples draw. This is how Harley Davidson motorcycles cost more than other brands. Brand recognition adds value.

Why do you think all Cell providers routinely subsidize the full cost of a cell phones on their network? It's because the money is not in the hardware...its in the continued monthly service charges.

I am glad that Apple worked with you and that you are happy with your purchase/service. It's always good when any consumer is happy with their choice/purchase. If you feel its money well spent, then I am happy for you. At the end of the day, that what matters. Is each consumer happy with their choice/selection.

btw. Apple, I just patented that idea and you WILL owe me millions if you use my idea. :->

Have a good day. :->

LMAO

I love it! I absolutely love it!!

I love the idea that right after Apple announces and is currently selling several million of its newest IProduct...that it has already started manufacturing the next generation of it. I guess its not too hard when you're first generation uses technology from its old IPhone 4 parts bin. Just thinking of all those millions of fools.

The following phrase is so VERY true when it comes to Apple followers: 'A fool and his money are soon parted'

I say screw-em. I don't listen to online radio anyway.

While local radio stations are still free (at least for now) to play artists music, there seems to be some confusion/greed as to why internet radio is a different beast. Does anyone know how much Clearchannel pays to play music over local airwave radio stations?

In the end, I have little sympathy or concern. I've already purchased hard copies of the music I like and loaded it on my own personal cloud. I'm able to stream random music or specific artists/albums from my home server to where ever I have internet access. I'm currently listening to my own cloud while at work/lunch.

Purchasing digital music online has less ownership, when Apple can wipe/cancel any account it chooses, without any recourse by its users. Read the Terms of Agreement.

With my own Cloud, I avoid the need to deal with ads or paying to listen to music I have purchased (not licenses as in Apple followers case) as Apple charges after 5GB Free limit is surpassed.

I can only hope that eventually the general public will realize that they can do lots on their own, if they just take the initiative.

No surprised. Steve Jobs wasn't the designer of Apples best sellers and this proves it.

I think the millions of dollars spent on a ship that's not fit for ocean voyages is a befitting tribute to Jobs lack of designing ability. He may have been the face of Apple, but He was not the actual designer of its products.

Jobs best sales pitch was in selling himself as an expert.

I bet his wife is somewhat relieved. Imagine His critique of Her lovemaking...."You're doing it wrong!"

Sorry for that borderline tasteless joke, but I couldn't resist.

Best wishes,
