Re: Interesting, but

I fully agree, but I guess when you have someone who blogs to the world about a supposedly intimate/personal experience, they really don't want it to be a personal thing.

It's strange how some individuals today declare that they wish to be treated equally as everyone else....yet take great strides in defining/advertising their differences to everyone who will listen/read.

Personally, I couldn't care less about this person's sex or sexual preference. I'm simply not attracted to her or interested in dating her. Now her skills and knowledge as a programer are interesting, especially now that she works at Tesla.

Why is sex/sexual preference like a badge to be worn on one's sleeve these days? It has zero to do with their job or ability and therefore irrelevant IMO.

Of course I'm not the average joe consumer either IMHO. I've built my own systems for decades and had my own NAS for years. Streaming my own music collection from home and by-pass all the Ads those "Free" services serve up.

Anyone remember AOL Neighborhoods, AIM, and ICQ? There have always been "Social" networks, but its simply a reincarnation using todays Ad funding models.

IBM nearly HALVES its effective tax rate in 2013 - report

False statment and lack of understanding where retirment accounts are invested.

"The current situation definitely benefits the elite 1% while penalising and exploiting the 99%."

This is a false statment and the commentor obviously lacks any business sense.

Anyone, Anyone who has a retirment account should understand that the money set aside for thier retirment is NOT sitting in a box. That money is invested in the stock market and thuse in companies such as IBM. When IBM make a profit and their stock grows/splits....that directly affects YOUR retirement savings in a possible direction.

Even state employees need to understand that their retirement funds are invested in the stock market.

Too many people fail to understand that the stock market contributes to more than just the "1%".

Over time, the stock market provides higher returns on your investment than Social Security ever does. That is why people should want to have greater involvement in how and where their SS benefits are used/invested.

Knowledge is power people. Even someone making 25,000 can create a significant retirement wealth over time. It simply takes will-power and a vision beyond next week.

Did these people NOT read the job description?

Part of Amazons success is its quickly processing/delivery. Mess with that...and people go elsewhere.

Amazon better get cracking on replacing them with robots IMO.

These people will complain themselves out of a job. Bet they get paid more than fast-food workers...simply retrieving packages from locations their given. It's a low skill job people.

In 2012, Capita employed 46,000 people and generated a pre-tax profit of 290 million pounds.

No sympathy for those not willing to take control of their own destiny/careers

While I understand many of the staff would be peeved about this man making as much money as he did.

My simple response is........Don't like it....then quit and form your own company.

There is NOTHING worse than childish adult whiners who complain about others making more money, but they CHOOSE to do nothing about it...except stomp thier feet and whine.

People who build companies ARE worth the money, because the people on the lower level obviously don't have the drive or determination to do anything on thier own. It's the risk takers that benefit the most and deservedly so.

Don't like where you work or feel your underpaid? Then do something about it or shut up.

No one is forcing the employees to stay there and work for less than they feel they are worth. The only person who limits you ....IS YOU.

Children whine because things may not be fair, but as an adult, you can do something about it. Take charge of your life and stop letting others lead you around like a horse. If there is no gun pointed at your head...you have the power to control your path.

Lets see a group of employees strike out on their own and form a competitor to this company. They can then run the company as they choose fit. It will either be successful or they will learn there is more to a successful company than simply working 8-5.

Who's to say that Paul Pinder didn't earn his wages years ago when building the company from the ground up?

When he joined Capita, it had 33 employees and revenues of £1.3 million.

Sweat equity in the early years will reap its rewards later on. Take control of your life and success if you want more than what you currently have.

Everyone who requests an IPAD has to sign an "Unsupported" waiver, acknowledging they will not receive support for that device from ITS.

We recevied two of the first gen Surface Pro's a couple of months ago and we installed SQL Server Management Tools, Oracle Client and Toad on them. We have the same capabilities we have on our desktops and laptops, but with the additional functionality of a tablet when we want.

Carries one device that functions as a tablet or Ultrabook IS a better solution IMO.

I understand Apple is fashion, but when you really need to get work done...you need a PC. A Tablet PC does the trick. The new Surface Pro II has upgrades to 8 gigs of ram and 256 or 512 gig SSDs.

Actually they are not. While it may not apply to 100% of the people all of the time. A generalization is based on recurring trends/cases we each observe and has a greater chance (IMO) of being the correct situation most of the time. There are always exceptions but they are few compared to the trend.

Apple sells a very limited product line, but they have multiple generations of each. Many times (if not most of the time) they added features that had already existed on other brands versions. Apple can sell its products at higher prices not because their hardware is that superior, but because they have brand recognition and many fashionistas want that recognition. Just as many (not all) owners of Harley Davidsons pay a premium for a harley over other brands to simply own and be seen on a Harley.

There will always be followers. Just ask each person you meet why they chose one brand over the other. If they spout marketing verbiage to you...you know they were a follower. If they can provide a specific reason and how that helps them achieve their task....they were knowledgeable when making their choice. This is of course my opinion and you may disagree with it. Nothing is perfect and there are always rough periods, but I know I have just as much power in where and who I choose to work with. I assure you I am not naive in the realities of life/work. . I've had some lame jobs in the past, but I knew I had the power to change that and I did. I've worked at my current company over 15 years and have moved up through the ranks past others who remained in the same position/level while I advanced. I even made a career change to another division within the same organization over 5 years ago and I'm in the same position today. I know what I need to do if I wished to move up in rank, but I'm very happy with my current job and salary. This article comes off as all negative. It's almost like He's trying to convince you all jobs/companies are crap and you've never been responsible for anything bad. At least that's how I see it. I don't see any real focus on on what the employee can do to add value to the company and thus solidify their position with the company. No smart businessman dumps an asset that continually brings value to the company.

The first reality everyone needs to understand.....Every company exists NOT for their employees, but because there is a market for their services/products. Businesses are only ongoing entities as long as they are profitable and competitive. Employees are hired to add value to the company and any employee that adds value, will grow/advance with the company. If you disagree, then start your own company , hire 20-50 employees and let us know how you do.

Personally, I prefer job ADVICE from AskTheHeadhunter. I've read his articles for years and I feel his approach much is far better than this authors. You have to love what you do and where you work. Money is important, but if its only the money that keeps you in your current job....while you hate every moment of it.....will you ever be happy? I'm guessing only when you decide to leave (after you have another job of course).
