Airbus flies new passenger airplane aimed at 'long, thin' routes

Re: Long and thin eh?

Similar plane, but on to Auckland via Perth or Darwin, then Melbourne or Sydney. 24 elapsed travel hours (including many refuelling stops) but arriving 36 hours later allowing for NZ being 12 hours ahead. Basically an opportunity to polish off any vast book you had wanted to read.

As an unaccompanied minor there was no real need for cash, but I recall my mum insisting that travelling half-way round the world with only £2 was reckless.

Re: New Normal?

> group efficiency depends heavily on non-verbal communication, subtext and nuances

I (and others) used to get this by going to the pub at lunchtime or after work. Or both. It worked really well, but I accept they were different times. It certainly meant all sorts of problems were addressed in a convivial and non-contfrontational environment though, far more than just dealing with things within an office. I am certain that just being co-located in an office doesn't in itself bring anything magical, and presumably the inefficiencies in communicating remotely have huge economic benefits (not least, closing offices) that are perceived to exceed intangible benefits of non-verbal communication.

Bank Holiday Friday

Bank Holiday Friday in this case being a Friday, not a Bank Holiday, but before a weekend with a following Bank Holiday Monday. Which I know we can all surmise, but I'm standing up for Good Friday, a real Bank Holiday Friday with a real Bank Holiday Monday following.

That'll work

The best (as in, most idiotic) security question I've come across was "Where did you go on your last holiday?". Presumably they decided "What did you eat last?" as too ridiculous.

Weighty

The 3 foot diameter one weighs 29 lbs, so not appropriate as a replacement for some existing pendants.

The steel version of the 7 foot diameter model weighs 105 pounds, so might end up as a conversational floor piece rather than a pendant light.

But pretty.

Re: What is the difference between royalties & licences

I'm guessing - but you buy a licence to be allowed to make them, and royalties are per chip on those you make.

Re Stop-Start

But automated Stop-Start reduces a car's official fuel consumption figures so that you might typically pay £30 per annum instead of £90 for car tax, which is real £££. Plus automated Stop-Start has a beefier battery and dynamically assesses its state before turning off. So when very cold (lots of heating on) or very hot (likewise aircon) it won't bother.
