T-Mobile USA: DON'T install Apple's iOS 10, for the love of God

SunBoy

iPhones on T-Mobile have always been flaky...(especially UK ones)

So, how many of you have travelled to the US using an iPhone from the UK...?

Ever noticed that unless you are using AT&T, the T-Mobile signal on 3G is flaky and falls to often stay on the network or be able to use data ?

I think it was only a matter of time before something like this happened... hopefully this will be a FULL fix....

Former Sun CEO Scott McNealy has data on 1/14th of humanity

SunRay is/was fantastic - no wonder Oracle killed it; it didnt fit into their world!

Look;

The SunRay was fantastic - same session world-wide - I was part of the SunRay@home crowd at Sun - I could take my Java Badge (my corporate ID) and put it in my SunRay at home, start doing work - it was very responsive, no issues.... acted like a monitor for my PC when I needed it to too!

I could start compiling something at home, then whilst waiting for the compile to happen, drive to work - put the card in ANY SunRay in the building, and check if it was complete.

This was good - it was fun, it was easy.....

Now; I dont work for Sun - I have a laptop and a desktop, both run Windows, local and network storage of files and its a complete nightmare.....

SunRay didnt just work on Solaris, we even pioneered it to work essentially as a citrix client so Windows was also able to run via it....

Sun had some fantastic ideas - the only problem with SunRay was running too many sessions on an underpowered system ... shared hardware and all that malarky - but spec it up right and it was a complete dream.

Black cab drivers are the scurge of the London roads!

On crutches - I had to get from Liverpool St. to my office, SEVEN (7) black cabs in a row refused to take me.....

Waiting at a bus stop with an ill due to diabetes girlfriend - FOUR(4) black cabs in a row refused to take me.....

Doesnt make them enough money.....

They can all go and get knotted.....they act as if they are entitled.....

Note to cabbies everywhere - take the rough with the smooth and never refuse a ride.....

Re: Oracle *ROYALY* screwed Sun and its customer base

As I noted with the V240 comment.....Sun didnt quite go for the quality factor as much as it used to....and hey, getting Fujitsu to make things meant that the Sun factories didnt have to bring back everyone they had just RIF`d ....

But - instead of actually doing anything useful with the staff and new customers when Oracle bought Sun, they did the exact opposite....

Sure, the T and M series systems are the best Sun hardware systems for a number of years - but the Oracle way of doing things screwed their potential....

Instead of being a box that folks are jumping to to keep their applications alive whilst they work an exit plan to linux......they could have been keeping the customers happy and actually keeping the Sparc/Solaris platform fully alive......

"We are the dot in dot com" - was a slogan once at Sun - why ? because the DNS machine that ran the .com resolver was a Sun/Sparc/Solaris system - one would wonder why it is no more!

SunBoy

Oracle *ROYALY* screwed Sun and its customer base

When Oracle took over - "we" were the 51st? (ish) takeover it had done - THEY DID NOT CARE....

Oracle noddys came in and said this is how we do a takeover - we monitize everything and stop actually providing customer service - unless you pay through the nose - and even then we wont do what Sun once did for you....because its not the Oracle way...

Hence - we now see customers - who had already been spooked by the hawking around McNealy had been doing of Sun and the lacklustre hardware (and cheapened too - ever seen what a 2006 V240 looks like with the flimsy plastic overs that look like they have been manufactured by a cheap toy company?)

Oracle ALIENATED the ENTIRE customer base and massively miffed everybody off.....(then had the cheek to close down Sun GMP - move everyone to TVP and turn GMP into a filmset for Cuban Fury).

Im not saying what Sun did and was doing was right - there were too many bean counters and middle management and really STUPID projects doing dumb things that wasted more money on the pretence of saving it.....BUT - Oracle missed an opportunity - sure - make money out of Sun - they got rid of all the talented staff, toned down customer service and what ever they could make the customer do themselves followed by hiking up all the service fees (i.e. double the amount for less service) and focused entirely on hardware to suit the Oracle database and nothing about what their customerbase was actually doing.

This then means the majority of my now customers (HUGE finance sector clients) have major projects to move from Sun hardware and Solaris to Linux - often on HP.

Oracle's hardware wing keeps on bleeding

Albatross - Oracle created it!

I think its unfair of the vulture to think about Oracle having an albatross on its back - Oracle created the situation...

as an ex-Sun staffer, I can see what Oracle have done to the hardware biz - they screwed it!

Im not just bitter and twisted(okay, so I can be that too!), however, I went from being a Sun Staffer to being in contract negotiations with Oracle as a customer.

The experience was dreadful - one obstacle after another , and a quadrupling of the costs...for worse service.

They have completely demoralized the field support teams by getting rid of as many contracts as they can - yes, contracts - contracts to supply hardware services to big huge gigantic multinational companies - they couldnt be bothered putting in the work to create a bid for a worldwide support contract they were being handed on a silver plate......

Gawd - I thought Sun was badly managed with meetings about meetings for meetings to have a meeting about a meeting - but these guys take the biscuit!

Oracle hardware - meh ...... Im sure Larry thinks who needs the hardware biz and is really just been trying to get rid of it ever since buying it......but not letting anyone else profit or have his toys....

Nexus 4-style supply cock-ups?.

"And thankfully there haven’t been many Nexus 4-style supply cock-ups, so you can actually buy one of the things if you have £320 lying around."

Thats if you can get Google to be @rsed to actually allocate one!

2 weeks after ordering my nexus 7 - it still hadnt been allocated despite daily contact with google and a front line that just lie and a 2nd line that cant be contacted any way other than internal email with 1st line!

Cancelled my order!

Google to offer 'same-day delivery' Amazon Prime killer - report

SunBoy
WTF?

Really?? They cant even allocate me an in stock Nexus 7 in 15 days - how do they expect to do this??

Google delivery are an absolute joke!

Ordered a Nexus 7 - 15 days later, it still was showing as pending/pre-order - this was despite daily calls, emails to customer services.

Customer services are absolutely useless - they lie and make up serious works of fiction. On top of this, they cannot call you back, you cannot talk to the same person because it "is simply impossible to transfer the call" and their frontline can only email their "specialists" who will supposedly respond within 24-48hrs.....

So, how on earth are google going to be able to pull off same day delivery?????

Was quite happy to wait the original 3-5days quoted - but 15 days for a fondleslab???

Torvalds asks 'Why do PC manufacturers even bother any more?'

SunBoy
Megaphone

At least google will deliver to him!

Managing to get Google to actually deliver any hardware from the play store is virtually impossible - here in the UK anyways!

So, at least Google is delivering to someone!

Backstory is that I tried to order a Nexus 7 on 14th Feb, yet despite promise of fondleslab within 5 days,

15 days later after daily calls with lies, deceit and general user contempt from Google frontliners(who, by the way, cannot call you back or even have you call them and they can only email other departments and wait 24-48hrs for a response) , and 1 re-order, the fondleslab had not even been allocated yet and was in exactly the same status as it was after I pressed the purchase button!

So, good luck to Linus if he can actually get them to deliver.

As for me, I gave up and bought an iPad from a local bricks and mortar store instead.

Google Play privacy SNAFU sends app buyers' details to devs

SunBoy
WTF?

Google is begining to be EVIL!

Ever tried to look at a Nexus 7 and tried to get a price for it to be delivered?

If you dont have a google play account, they *MAKE* you sign up and GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD.

All this *BEFORE* allowing you to KNOW WHAT THE POSTAGE AND PACKING PRICE IS!

WTF??? Why oh why do google NEED MY CREDIT CARD DETAILS to GIVE ME A POSTING COST?????

Why your tech CV sucks

Nice Article!

What a well written article - I recently helped a friend of mine put together his first CV. So we had something to work on, I asked him to come up with something first.

University educated, 1st from and oldie but a goodie place, and this guy fell into all the traps you describe above.

Why do people persist in making life hard by doing things so absurdly badly like their CV ?

CVs are boring, horrible and painful no matter if you are the recruiter or recruitee...why not make it easier for the recruiter - that way you might get a job in a decent company.

For IT jobs - who cares that you can use MS Office - like an admin girl(okay or boy...but hey theres not many of them!) - if you work in this line - then its taken forgranted you can use an application to write documents, make spreadsheets and read emails.

What I do care about though is what the job you are applying for is looking for and how you can do the job I am advertising.....SELL ME YOU - WHY DO I WANT TO PAY YOU LOADSA DOSH instead of getting me 3 or 4 cuties to make my business look good (and yes, I include cute guys - if there is such a thing!).

Cant login properly - accepts uname/pw but fails to do very much (unless of course the credentials are wrong and it tells you so!).
