Saying the sky is green doesn't make it so. Denying even the possibility of failure insures it.

MS patches up to date.
AV definitions up to date.
Behind corporate firewall - no idea if THAT means anything.
Scenario: AV software detected 2 files, one quarantined, the other untouchable - oops.
Requires a supershell to allow permissions changes to registry to even see where the services were hacked so that the bastard worm could be disabled and destroyed.
Took several hours to clean all the machines in the office - most fully patched XP & 2000 boxes of the 2 different Downadup varieties we encountered.
Actually, comcast didn't even give us a comparison period to allow you to use the new or the old. One day, without warning, mail stops working and you don't get it back without restarting into the new crap. No going back. At all. Ever. Tough Love. Most people also experienced comcast's servers going out for half a day as well, making a customer service nightmare. Bully for them.
I really don't mind comcast's new look but they dropped functionality which is extremely painful. I have 3 accounts but can only use one at a time. In order to have full use of each account's folders, send & receive, I have to log out and log back in. The old format supported a mailbox manager which made this very easy & painless.
They claim they are working on it but I have my doubts. I am in the process of migrating to another mail service so this will just accelerate that process.
Been to meetings like this one as I'm sure many of you have:
Phorm exec with a wee bit of integrity: "How can we test this stuff? We'll need gobs of permissions & disclosures. It will take time & cause problems."
Typical Phorm exec: "Ask for permission or ask for forgiveness? Go with the forgiveness angle so we can move forward now and clean up the mess later or not at all."
And so it goes. No ethics. No conscience. All business and bean counting.
Cheers,
Mike
Less than a minute to download, less than a minute to install including an update to google toolbar. All my add-ons seem to work. (Will need a few days to really check most functionality.) Seems a bit quicker. Need to play a bit more to see what's hot but no issues with minimum required functionality unlike some versions of IE which fell over on start.
Cheers,
Mike
US automakers have ignored the fuel efficiency thing forever and are once again, caught out. Lots of morons out there who still want the hummer crap but GM finally realizes that's a dead end.
Sad really. GM especially could have been the one to innovate hydrogen cell cars as they WERE large enough to have started building the infrastructure. Or any other promising tech. Now they are sucking hind tit again. I'll bet Wagonner's bonus doesn't suck though.

In reality the song was a political campaign song for one George O'Brien.
From http://www.ktracy.com/?p=957
Mr. O’Brien was a Progressive Socialist Party Candidate for Mayor in Boston in 1948.
He was against a plan to add a nickel "exit" fare to the ten cent per ride transport system.
The Kingston Trio made it more or less well known years later.
I guess with the new crackable cards we could be rolling those fares back to 1948 prices...

... but I certainly won't be buying any in the future as a result of this stupidity. Any possible loss of their IP has been totally wiped out by this massive PR fiasco.
In the US this sort of nonsense is happening more and more frequently. A seeming injustice is thrown out to the public with almost universal condemnation of the perps. It seems the bean counters and pencil pushers are so inept they just don't understand the market they are in any longer.
Power to the people - after all, we pay the bills.

@James Bassett,
You have really got you head buried somewhere. Shoes ARE a potential, if anemic, weapon as (almost) demonstrated by Richard Reid.
The issue in Lubbock is common sense and human sensitivity, both obviously lacking with you AND the TSA. TSA had the option of a pat down by a female agent or removal. They chose the most denigrating option and then snickered about it. Morons - insensitive morons.
Happy flying,
Mike
If she's kept on after 'suitable discipline', she will indeed be in a limited position. if she's fired, she can attempt to capitalize on notoriety and even continue the attacks / expose' in the name of serving the people's interest. Certainly hope the discipline extends to looking into the conduct she's been complaining about.

I worked at a little cmos ic company around the corner from a big Sperry facility that got renamed Unisys during my time in silicon valley. The building (in my memory at least) was 2 blocks long, black or dark gray with a stripe (red?) at the top. How do you lose something that big???
I gave up the weed years ago and have periodically felt smugly superior for my triumph. Alas, this twit has definitively shown that brains and backy-free are not necessarily a guaranteed pairing.
OTOH, One of those kid happy super-soakers might have been the preferred attack vector here. Certainly would have been easier to clean up.

Fun, fun. Since we have almost NO factual or forensic info, we can assume anything. I like the blasting cap idea but that's too mundane. First, since he owns a mobile and works in a quarry, he's management therefore hated by the rest of the crew. He's always on the phone and getting out of way too much work. His co-workers, having enough of this poor guy's shirking, connect the blasting cap (knew I could use it somehow) to the phone's speaker, duct tape the phone to the guy's body, render him immobile (more duct tape) and call the phone from behind a rock pile or some piece of heavy equipment. Battery never had a chance. Almost good enough for a BQOFH.
Apologoes to BOFH.
I'm gone...
I have land line service with Verizon and for over a year I got calls from creditors, annoying salesmen (are there any other kind?) and school administrators looking for someone (or their kid) who must have had the number earlier. Early on I called Verizon support and was assured that my name would be put in their directory in place of "Robert's". The calls continued unabated but I just got used to erasing them.
Eighteen months later I come to find out that Robert is still on the directory (big surprise). I'm moving again and wonder whose calls I'll be getting next year.

Someone should look into this hypocritical and small minded jurist and see what his take on free speech was while he attended school. If he was normal (doubtful), he expressed ideas, maybe even radical ones to see how the felt, fit and could work into his growth as a human being. If he was too dim or too timid to express anything but the day's pap, he once again confirms most people's low expectations for his legal opinions. This decision now condemns a generation of potential free thinkers to the oblivion of conventionality and possibly contributes to the frustrated actions of a few individuals that really do disrupt school in a very bad way. A sad representation of our country and the ideals once strongly supported here for learning. No moron left behind. Our schools are no longer even remotely aimed at education, only control.

Probably an indication that a change is imminent...same as with poor Rufus' employment status. A view source reveals:
