GPS is killing children

leslie
Flame

No fun...

Right thats it I'll never buy a nav4 thingy with this feature as its obvious this company are causing global warming by making cars take a longer route, its also anti-darwin as any bright kid wont be playing on the road anyway, so they are also lowering the IQ of the world gene pool by allowing stupid kids to survive into adulthood.

Also if it routes sensibly, we cant have funny news reports showing how lorry drivers have got stuck between a tree and and expensive sprots car etc.

no it wont do, it goes against all the norms of sat nav.

grrr

Some damn rules should be passed to stop this outsourcing, its a crime in itself, it serves no ones interests but whoever gets the profit from the bottom line.

Its not good for the staff, its not good for the customer, its only good for the fat cats.

If I phone customer services and I dont get body at the end of the line in my own country, I change supplier, end of.

I wont go into the union issues or I'll be writing for a month!

lack of content

I remember when reviews told you how many pages per minute it did, resolution, maybe power consumption, how much paper the tray held, could you attach other addons...

Call this a review, do me a favour.......

I guess its only a mono laser, another fact missing from this ''review''

Toshiba remains upbeat about HD DVD

About time

Who wants clunky mechanical drives as a main system device anyway, if i had a choice between booting from ram or booting from hdd, then its a no brainer, ram wins, its so simple to bolt a memory controller to a bit of board and make it sata or pci, leave the spinning noisy things for archive.

Yes ram can lose its data, but with a clunker as backup, it can restore in a few seconds.

gigabyte make a ramdisk, but its just not cost effective at £99 unpopulated (ram box)

all too techy

all too technical, the local shoplifters around here soon worked out with a pair of scissors you can put a £0.59p coffee barcode onto a £2.99 one, and with selfscan checkouts coming online at supermarkets, how does it know as both jars weigh 500g etc................

Lets face it, here in the good ol' uk, like so many other countries, we_cant_ build anything anymore because we have shut all our factories, if from tomorrow we had to build a car, make a dvd player, we would have no chance.

All of the above

Has anyone made a point that is about DAB, that is a good point?

Maybe their ''think tank'' should read these comments and they might see where they went wrong.

Digital audio (cd) digital video (dvd,tv) and now digital radio, are all carrying an analog signal, after crushing it, no one who is a purist likes that.

I dont mind it for run of the mill stuf, but now and again I want a bit of quality in my life, I cant wait for ''the vinyl revival''

Dab radio sounds utter shite, mp3 sounds terrible, and now FM has gone 'tinny' as well as its shuffled round the country in a digital form.

Even terrestrial analog tv is from a digitally crushed source.

They stole my analog and I want it back!

@teaching in schools, whisker radios, yes I built one too from the ladybird book of making a transistor radio, great fun it was, but too complicated for our 6th formers of today.....

Skype crypto stumps German cops

leslie

why?

Anyone wanting to pass messages without fear of decryption just needs a good old fashioned code book, or a paperback, and then just send page/word count.

how can you defend agianst that, I know, anyone who looks like a terrorist, wont be allowed to buy books, there, solved it for them.

damn weapons

How about its modified so it cant be reused until after a minute?

At least then if a ''suspect'' needs more than one hit, it needs more than one officer, so there is less chance of someone being tasered several times until dead.

or better still, go back to wooden trucheons, see how brave killer cops are then..

Cops have a hard job to do,but there is no need for weapons like this, we just need more cops to overpower the suspects, not damn kill them!

hell we dont even make tractors any more, sorry I was meaning Rovers.

And the report has missed the point that every bit of electronic equipment is just waiting for them to send the self destruct signal....

The real danger is we have crippled our own countries ability to build and thus defend itself in exchange for cheap consumer goods, now they are better at construction than us.

Thing is, what do they do with all the money we send them for those cheap goods.....

Kids get up at 07:30 and TV is on as I would have fell asleep on sofa watching late news, they go to school, I go to bed.

it stays on while wife does whatever and crap morning TV dribbles out, then its the lunch time news and I would be getting up for breakfast, I watch what I missed the night before as I would be working, so thats upto about 4pm if a few items

Then kids come home and watch kids tv till about 6pm, I go to work, then its the news, kids/wife watch more tv, then I come home about 2am-4am wife will be asleep on sofa as she always falls aslep waiting for me toget home

I wake her to go to bed, make a drink, catch up on late news or crap shows as I wont be tired, then I'll fall asleep on sofa, so kids wake me up at 7:30 and the cycle repeats....

That TV has suffered this for about 7 years until this year, the things glad I lost my job....

3UK still haemorrhaging money

leslie

its a dead duck unless

it gets its finger on the new emerging mobile data market, at a sensible price, its made moves in the right direction, but problem is its offering faster connections at silly prices, in my mind it would win if it offered slower connections with more data per buck..

I dont think anyone on the move wants oodles of data, but we do need to pay a sensible price for reading our email etc on a laptop, not on a 2''phone screen with all the formatting shafted.

with all the spam and imbedded images on simple pages, (ohh look at you screen now....) the data transferred is about 80% of static 10% of signal and 10% of useless headers, why should I pay a fortune for that!

stop whining

if you bought it on day 1 then the price dropped, tough, thats life, it happens to everything.

If you 'flashed' it with a non manufacture approved firmware, then you did void your warranty etc, I'm sure you will find it in the small print you agreed to when you bought/registered it.

If you then (stupidly) applied a manufacturers 'upgrade', when they had previously gone public and told you it would brick your now midified phone, then you are a total idiot !

And as to car warranty's, here in the uk if you dont use an approved stealer, sorry dealer, to do the service's, you lose warranty, heaven forbid that you actually put oil in it yourself!

US teacher fired for non-literal bible reading

leslie

Lock em all up

I've had it with the religious fools, I went to a Christian school and had to sing hymns and pray every morning before lessons, I soon questioned what I was taught, I soon denouced it as BS.

The bible is nothing more that a 'live your life this way or else' book to bring about law, order, and ultimately control of the week minded masses.

It is funny if you look at a map of the world that countries that are /more/ religious, have more problems because they are constantly at war with each other over 'my dads bigger than your dad', oh sorry, I meant God.....

what an omission............

No wonder the likes of the XDA still sell.

The people that buy ipods are the apple lovers, the people that buy the xda's are the 'older executives' and taxi drivers wanting tomtom - the people that buy something not mainstream like this phone, are people who can take a decision and wont buy it if its castrated from the beginning by poor connectivity!

Flash memory makers propose common card

leslie

we do need it

No we do need a new universal card, it should be universal in that it should have its own new connector, but be able to fit into a 'jacket' so it can emulate other flash devices and the app file system.

In its native form it can be its new all singing all dancing super fast self, but shove it in a little plastic jacket and its smart media, change its jacket and its MS, one size then fits all, give it USB too.

What I cant understand when I trawl ebay is why I cant buy a little box, with a 40 way connector, that I can drop a few gb of ram in that emulates a dvd, hell that would make testing so much faster that writing dvd r/w etc.
