Re: Other than

The prosecutor is arguing that it is his server, and he is DPR . Either he is, and they violated his rights by searching it, or he isn't, and they need to drop the charges. They are trying to have it both ways.

They are violating his rights whether or not it is his server if they are taking his information from wherever he chose to store it (with the owner's permission, and without their consent to a search). They have no legal right to search without a warrant, and instead of being put in prison like they should be for illegal searches, they are instead discouraged from it by the evidence being excluded from use, and further investigation being fruit of the poison tree. Otherwise they could always illegally search A's house for evidence against B, and search B for evidence against A and never need a warrant. And if that isn't enough evidence to convict, use that now "legally obtained" evidence to search each party again to use what was in A's house against A.

Re: Invention

" Some of you people don't realise that all these patent laws exist to protect IP and ultimately the work of a passionated guy."

Patent laws exist so large companies can keep others from competing with them. They didn't spend a billion dollars in R&D coming up with showing the next image for a second, some designer spent 5 minutes twiddling his thumbs and thought "hey this would be cool". Parents are supposed to be novel and non obvious:

"Only research beyond that done as part of normal product design and development should be rewarded with a patent. Routine redesign should not be enough, for there is no need for monopolies as an incentive for such research."

But they throw alot of money at getting parents on bullshit so they can use the violence of the state against their competition, or to protect themselves from being sued over bullshit by being able to countersue.

" Myabe you should be careful with your smart arse arguments. Violent video games are extremely popular hence according to you there are loads of violent people about."

Just because violent people are more likely to play violent video games, doesn't mean that a large percentage of said gamers are violent. Even if they are that says nothing about the games themselves, other than they could be a useful tool to estimate the number of violent people in the general population.

Re: Sir

" Yes, but government backed currencies are just that, the promise means something. (I accept it doesn't mean you're getting gold, as most countries don't operate gold standard, but you will get your money back if a bank crashes or is robbed.)"

A promise from government means something? Thats news to me.

If money is stolen from your wallet, you aren't getting it back unless you catch the thief. Having the bank or FDIC insure money you keep in the bank is a service issue, not a currency issue. Here, bitcoinica will absorb the loss, and the customers won't lose anything, as long as it isn't bad enough that they go out of business. And its not a good idea to keep all of your coins on an exchange, it is for trading, not a bank.

Re: Decades of road safety research

" There is a power law correlation between speed and death. A fourth power correlation. If you don't like the research then feel free to point out its flaws."

Ok; I read the first couple pages of the above linked pdf. They say themselves that the power law doesn't show that greater speed causes more accidents, but that greater injuries result from accidents, which would be predicted by physics. They also mention that some of the studies showed that a variance from the mean speed was an issue. That doesn't mean that increased absolute speed is more dangerous if everyone is going about the same speed. Obviously you dont want to blow past people 20mph faster than them. Also they only show a correlation, it could be that dicks who would drive recklessly are also more likely to speed, or that distracted drivers arent watching their speed.

Re: @annodomini2 Before anyone says "here comes big brother"...

" There are also reasons for speed limits nothing to do with danger."

Ya, generating revenue.

" So I (and about 30 other cars at any one time) waste 5 minutes every day at this junction, just so that the "main" road cars can drive at 40mph instead of 30mph for a 400 yd stretch (saving themselves about 7 seconds)."

Sounds like you need a traffic light.

Dont they want to use this as a ground based system? I dont see how it will affect planes up in the air. As it is now, it is used to communicate from ground to satellite, which seems more likely to cause an issue.

Redmond campaigns for gay marriage rights

SoulReaper

@jc

Like the government can make it any more right? Either way the child wont be coming back, and both can demand compensation to the victim or their family. It's the government's limited liability corporations that protect the people running the company from bring held personally responsible for their reckless actions.

Yes, laws are enforced with violence. If you dont obey them, men with guns kidnap you and lock you in a cage. I have no idea wtf the rest of that paragraph is supposed to mean. And of course you failed to make any kind of argument about how these marriage laws make sense, instead opting for ad hominem attacks. But I guess thats because you have no real arguments.

A) The state would not have a harder time enforcing a contract between 2 men or two women, deciding who can get married is more involved than enforcing contracts. The whole marriage license thing was created to stop interracial marrying, it worked just fine before the state got involved.

B) Private arbitrators can resolve contract disputes. And for some, the contract is between them and god, and they dont need men to enforce the faithfulness clause.

I feel sorry for you that you feel the need the use violence against others to make society work the way you want, and you can't get along with your fellow man.

Chrome is the most secured browser - new study

SoulReaper

You dont need to be able to refute the claims. Chrome may well be the most secure according to their criteria, but they may have looked at the browsers using many different criteria and chose the ones that gave the results they wanted. What they say may have some merit, firefox ought to ad sandboxing, but this doesnt mean ff users should switch to chrome.

Thumb Down

Yes, taxes exist for the purpose of leeches stealing from people. And even if you avoided some taxes with bitcoins, you are still paying some such as sales tax. Taxes on busonesses also drive up the cost sof what you buy so you are paying them indirectly. And of course you can complain about taxes being used to kill people around the world.

Of course they will tell you why they need to control it; because they want to control it.
